Default How are K series engines + tranny

I did a search but didn't find much, maybe it was the way I was searching, but I coulnd't find much info.

Sorry if this has been posted before, but Im interested in purchasing a RSX and was wondering how the K series engines and trannies are holding up?

Right now I have a 94 civic with a D16 motor, never had a B swap so I cant' compare really, so I was looking for some more info on how well the trannies and engines are holding out so far, as far as any issues or design flaws etc.

Anything I should be worried about?

thanks for your time.

the engines (specifically the Type S, it has a completely different head) are putting down insane numbers, with just bolt ons.

the trannys are having problems...

have heard that the tranny has problems associated with grinding and notchiness.

It's mostly on the 02's...as far as I know not very many other's are having problems with their transmissions.

They will/might cover it, it depends on a couple of things. 1 is the dealership nice, if they're good guys or not. 2, if you have mods, mainly centered around your tranny(short shifter, type-r final drive) ect, then no...3, if they scan your ecu for error codes and find you've been over revving then no. Try to get in good with the guys at your local dealership and you should have a very easy time getting it looked at and fixed if need be. Stay away from the earlier models though, definitly the 02's. I have an 02' and it has a slight grind in second but mainly just notchy in almost every gear sometimes

the K series is rock solid, great engine, people are putting down soem great numbers with stock internals. The tranny seems to have a syncro problem but this seems to be hit or miss. I have never had any problems with mine but some people do seem to have some problems.

The K series engines are insane. Ours is holding up very well, and responds well to mods. Our tranny (car is a 2002 Type S) was replaced at 10k miles, and is now very notchy & the synchros seem to be worn pretty bad. The car now has 60k miles & the tranny about 50k. I'm sure that the newer trannys will be better. Even w/ the tranny issues I rate the type s in fun factor, and nice driveability.

Well I managed to get about 50 runs out of my 2002 DC5R 6spd before I started to have a problem with the diff, then I destroyed 2nd and it synchro.. I'm only pulling about 220whp. Hopefully after fixing it, it wont come back..
The motor is mint, it hasnt missed a beat yet and I take it out to 8800rpm
This is all in my EG hatch though..
