what's name of these suspension bushings? which need press to install?
which bushings are these called? i want to order the suspension technigues hyperflex kit, but don't know what these bushings are called. I've numbered them.
I want to know for general knowledge for discussing labor charges with shops, and also for when the kit lists it's items, i know which one's go where...and what i'll need now, and what i can put in down the road. my bushings are shot.
Its a 1993 del sol si w/ 105,000+ chassis miles. thanks for any info.

2 is a Tie Rod Ball Joint, 4 is a Front Control Arm Bushing, 5 is a Control Arm Ball Joint, 6 is an A-Arm Ball Joint, BTW those pcis froze my comp
See here: http://www.suspension.com/civic.htm.
1. Front sway bar end link bushing (aka "Front End Links")
2. Tie-rod boot
3. Front sway bar end link bushing (aka "Front End Links")
4. One of the front LCA bushings (See below)
5. Lower ball joint boot
6. Upper ball joint boot
1&3 should come together in a set.
2, 5, & 6 have a crummy design (IMHO) by Energy you may want to consider OEM. The OEM boots, which are still available from Honda, have a recession for a circlip that makes them very secure. The ES ones do not and rely on a pressure fit.
4 is really the only thing you need a press for. All the others most people can do themselves with regular tools. Additionally, this is one of two front LCA bushings. The other being the one inboard, that attaches the LCA to the chassis (leftmost part of your first pic which isn't labeled).
Here is a caveat regarding location #4 from that page listed above:
"NOTE: The 16-8102 & 16-8103 are sometimes referred to as the center bushing on the lower control arms.
The bolts that hold the shocks onto the lower control arm are usually frozen/rusted on the lower control arm.
They are difficult to remove and you will usually destroy the rubber bushing surrounding the bolt, when you attempt to remove the shock/strut.
We do not supply bolts.

awesome info man....exactly what i was looking for!
EDIT: also, the front ball joint boots..... the ES P/N is 16-13101 and is about $6.00. Does that include the upper and lowers for both sides, or is it just the upper and lower for one side? or just the uppers for both sides, or just the lowers for both sides? thanks for any info.

will the LCA bushings make that much of a difference? I'm not getting the full hyperflex set, so they are about $42 for the front LCA bushings, plus they have to be pressed in, which is more money.
Do they make that much of a difference in handling to justify the 100 extra dollars spent? Assumming that i can get the bolts loose without damaging the existing bushing.

Sorry, out for the weekend...
I had a master kit for a different model, but I'm pretty sure that the 16-13101 should contain 4 pieces: upper and lower ball-joint boots for both front sides.
Also if you look at the tie-rod boot price, which is for a pair (2 pieces), its $3.00. Precisely half of the $6 price for the ball-joint boot set. And if I recall correctly, the ball-joint boots and the tie-rod boots are pretty similar if not identical.
You'll probably notice things if you change all the bushings at once. And then it might make the ride a little (too) harsh depending on the rest of your suspension/tire modes. If the LCA bushing's aren't worn (ripped) then don't bother/save your money.

thanks. same as what i found out from suspension.com.
i ordered everything from ES, including the LCA bushings b/c mine were all messed up too. I figured i might as well get it all ES, and think of a way to modify the bushings if I feel necessary. I don't mind a stiffer ride....i care about performance only.
thanks for all your help.
