NEED HELP! with shift linkage

my friend needs some help with his shift linkage... there is a pin that is hold the shift linkage near the tranny... that pin is stuck, and we've tried many things to get it out.. but it will barely budge.. we've tried torchin it and gettin it hot then hittin it out.. but wont come out.. please help.. if u got n e ideas.. let me kno.. thanks.. peace
Yes, a punch and hammer/mallet will work.
Also, if you want to try what I did. I don't have a punch set, so I used the 1/8" ratchet extension and used that in conjuction with a hammer to get the pin out. It worked nicely. The 1/8" Craftsman extension was a perfect fit. It did get a bit scuuffed up though.
Make sure you have lots of room to swing with the hammer/mallet. Usually, you don't have too much room in there. Try to get more room by getting the car higher or something. That will help a lot. And spray some Liquid Wrench in there or something.
