Where to start on building a b18b

I have a b18b lying in my house right now. I have the funds to begin a massive buildup of this engine, but I need to know where to start. I'm torn between trying to raise compression and running N/A or boost, but ultimately where i'd like to go is high comp N/A if I can maintain reliability. I don't expect a LOT of power, but something nice would be kind of fun.
Help me out guys: What are some proven techniques for this buildup and where can I look for examples? Thanks in advance.

reliability, lot of power, nice, fun, these are pretty vague terms. How much money do you have? What are the goals of the car? What kind of 1/4 times do you want to see? Hp numbers maybe? Is it supposed to be a daily driven engine?
CTR pistons
Balance bottom end
micropolish crank
arp rod bolts
good headwork & im/tb
good valve job
valvetrain of your choice
crower 404's
4-1 header, 2.5" collector
2.5" exhaust
tuning
safc or hondata
There ya go. Don't forget to clay your motor.

WTF???
anyways just slap on a turd-blow kit and there you go. boost is so fun.

170whp is a pretty modest goal. If you really want to go with the NA route, the best thing to do would be to build an lsvtec, or start with a b16. The b18b is really good for boost, but you don't need boost to hit 170whp.
Lsvtec isn't that bad... if you have the funds, take it to a place that you know will do it right, someone with expertise.

good question for which there is much information if you search, and here's a good thread to find some answers; it's a 9 page thread on all motor LS. Hope it helps and good luck with your b18b buildup

go turbo because even though everyone has goals once they get there they want more power, and with turbo you can just turn up the boost.
get a precision sc34

I did a modest b18b allmotor build, i/h/e cams and a ported head (automatic). I kept up with GSRs but damn for 3k, i kick myself in the head for that. Im currently building an b18b for turbo. Expect to pay a lot of money to make an all motor ls. One more thing if your gonna do an all motor ls, at least get a gsr tranny. My 5speed LS right now has some long gears (esp 3rd).
perfect thread for ya! -> https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=818820
I've been thru the LS phase, then turbo LS, then LSVT, then turbo LSVT.
Here's the basic low down... if you want to go N/A with a honda... I'd say go with a vtec setup from the git. Otherwise you will spends lots of money just to keep up with stock GSR's and ITR's.... you already start 30hp down from a GSR.
You goals are ONLY 170whp ? I say don't bother with a whole build then !!! Save some money !! Do a compression test on the LS motor, if it's in good condition, just throw on some new bearings, seals, gaskets, water and oil pumps, etc and keep the stock internals. Do a little research on turbos and compressor maps and choose a properly sized turbo, like a t3 or a hybrid t3/t4 and a quality intercooler.
Drop some ching and get some 2b hondata action tuned at a reputable shop (or uberdata, w/e you want) and you're set !!!
A turbo LS on stock internals/head, etc. will easily net you 190-200+ whp at low boost (6-8psi) on a conservative tune. No need to buy pistons/rods/sleeves, etc.
X2 (my $2.50)

you must be kidding, did you look at the the thread above you? That LS will romp a stock type-R, and it cost way less than a c1 or c5 swap. Stock gsr's? a 404 build will kill gsr's.
Something people don't realize is a stock 140hp LS w/ b16 tranny is basically dead even with a stock b16 w/ 160hp, it's the LS tranny that slows it down. it's a born VTEC killer.
so if you really want to destroy VTEC's you'll need a VTEC tranny , get a b16 cable tranny it's the perfect mod for the LS, vtec's can forget about catching up in 3rd gear
Here's what you need for 175whp or so:
- DC Sports 4-2-1
- Some 2.25" Exhaust
- Intake
- 404's + springs
- SAFC or Emanage
- pr3 Pistons (10.8CR)
You could skip the pistons and just mill oyur head a little bit, you'ld be more like styleTeg around the mid-high 160's.

don't listen to these haters, 70% of this forum is gsr owners, so go figure.
You can make a 14 second LS for 2000-2500 or so, that's cheaper and faster than any swap. Bottom Line.

i was just about to bring up that thread.
404s
slightly milled head
p+p
and youve got yourself a 170whp car
