Default suspension thoughts

all my thanks to you guys who helped me out on the last topic i posted.
im newb with 93 vtec lude. i want to lower my car 1" - 1.5" but im on a fairly tight budget. i mostly want to do this now to help out the looks of the stance of the car. but i DO NOT want to sacrafice my cars good handling and smoothish ride. i am curious if i can accomplish this with just putting on some sport springs and keeping my stock shocks. is this a good idea or should i think about coilovers. i would like to be able to see a 1" - 1.5" drop, keeping the stock shocks, not sacraficing any ride or handling, and not geting a chamber kit. basically im asking if i can just slap on sport springs or coilovers and still have a nice ride. also, if i can do this, what suggestions do you honda wizards have on brands (springs or coilovers).
also, are there disadvantage's to coilovers? thanks much.... i know i will learn much. ive been reading through this site with amazement. i hope to become a regular participant and contributor. VIVA LA PRELUDE

usually when you buy aftermarket coilover sleeves and put them on stock shocks you will get a "bouncy" feel since the sleeves are much more stiff than the stock shocks can support. i would recommend that you save up for a nice set of full coilovers, but within budget, any spring/shock combo will suite your plans well. for that drop, i would suggest getting h&r sport springs. they will do fine and wont sacrifice ride or handling, but as always, your stock shocks will only last so long (depending on how much/hard you drive). if you have a lil more money you can get kyb agx shocks to accompany your sport springs. this would be a perfect combo within your budget hope that helps man plus, you wont have to spend extra money/labor next time since you're doing it all at once.

as for camber kit, you wont neccessarily need it since camber will be off a bit, but if uneven tire wear is a problem to you spend the money for a camber kit also

I agree Do not whatever you do buy cheap coilovers you will bounce wayyy too much for what you want. As far as the ride and handling 1.5 drop on springs will ride really nice and handle even better than stock.I would go with the H&R sport springs as dawalude said. And if you have a bit more money get some shocks/struts while your at it!

A Prelude is no harder than any other car... I can swap my springs in 15 mins per corner...

5 lug nuts, 4 nuts, two bolts and you're done... Autozone rents spring compressors if you don't have a set...

This is what I have decided to go with ... please let me know what you think. H & R Sport Srings ($120) with KYB GR-2 Shocks ($190). Is this a good set up and combination. Also, is this a resonable price (best prices i could find). My car is used for daily driver and occasional street racing. I dont think i would be doing any autocross mostly because there isnt any around here... So is this a good street combo. thanks again

I'm not real familiar with KYB products... Are those adjustable? If so, that's a great deal! I have Tociko Illumina adjustables and love em!

GR-2 = non adjustable
AGX = adjustable

yeah I think that setup will do your facy. good choice on the products...not the best but definatly not the worst. Go for it you will love the look it gives you.

As for doing it yourself. get a helms manuel and you should be fine if you give yourself a full day!

Yeah, the first time on a car always sucks.... It always brings to mind a thought of little Japanese guys with huge arms carrying around 750lb impact wrenches just looking for suspension bolts to overtighten

ok guys here is the situation ... see pervious post up top for the parts ive chosen ... i went to my local mechanic that has never failed my prelude and is a honest person ... he wants $390 labor to replace stock springs and shocks with the aftermarket ones ... i can see this as being a fair price ... but like i said before im not rich !! So if i decide to do this myself i would like input on what tools i will need ... and some basic instructions our comments on what you guys have gone through doing yours ... not to mention will i need alignment and balance job after installed ??? also what is the best reference guide for this application. thanks so much guys ... im going to post picks of my lude's before and after once i get it lowered. i appreciate all your help !!
