Default My engine is acting up, suggestions??

Lately there's been some loud valve tapping in my motor. I took the valve cover off and adjusted them all to spec (checked them twice), to no avail. After adjusting them I took it for a spin and there was a fuel cut at around 6500 rpm...

What, other than the knock sensor, would do this to the engine? I've heard knock before and I dont believe thats my case. It sounds like top end noise. The motor has over 140k miles on it, so I am a hair's breadth away from buying a jdm h22a from a local shop. But if I can get some use out of this engine before it totally blows it would be great.

Any suggestions?

Dude, having my second h23 in my car the first one ******* up really bad. My engine had a knock that was rpm specific which sounded like it was coming from top end, maybe as in the lower section of the head which you could maybe take as some bad valve action or something. Anyway my engine went caput in a big way. It ruined damn near everything in there. When i took the engine apart. It had spun a bearing, and to top that off one of the piston connecting rods had shattered into countless little pieces and various debret. On top of this was sucked into the oil vaccum in the bottom of the engine and clogged it up which ultimately cause it to blow a head gasket also.
NOTHING GOOD CAN COME FROM AN ENGINE KNOCK.
better start pricing that h22

Hmm, I did suspect valve problems after I adjusted the lash clearance with no luck. My friend who knows a little more than I do said that if any valves were bent, that cylinder wouldnt fire.

When you spin a bearing, does the bearing make any noise? Does it come out of the housing? Or just stop spinning? I've heard this term before, and know it means the bearing went bad, but what specifically happens?

unfortunately i'm pretty novice at this myself. but i believe the friction just gets so bad between the journal and the bearing and just goes fubar and siezes up. I think you could find out the prob maybe with a leak down test. If it is a bearing problem then chances are you might have a little loss of power, then before long then engine will be down.

hmm sounds like whats happening. I dont really even think vtec is engaging although theres no cel on. Im going to adjust the valves one last time tomorrow and see if i missed one. If I can kill the tapping then i'll move on the the vtec system diagnosis.

Ill post results
