HELP fast...engine ID info
bought a hatch off my friend and he said there is a newer engine in the car. its a 93 si hatch and the block still reads d16z6 is there any way to tell if it is the original engine or not? sorry if this is a stupid ?
Engines has VINs too, I don't think they correspond but find the engine vin- can't quite recall where it is but it should be obvious, then take the car vin and the engine vin and take them to a Honda dealer perhaps? They might point you in the right direction, either way, the D16Z6 won't be any newer than 1995.
Yes there is. Take the whole serial # to your local dealer (hopefully they will help you) or a Honda shop and ask to look at the Helms shop manual for the motor(s) in question. The listings are toward the front of the book. The #'s following the D16z6 will determine the year that motor was installed.
Also, If you take your Vin # to the Parts department at any honda dealer, they can look up the vin and tell you exactly which motor with serial #, that was in the car. If they say no, then they're full of it.
on my 92 si valvecover d16z6, it just said honda but on my buddies 94 si valvecover it said vtec on it. not sure which year it changed but if that helps
