Changing OBDII ECU to OBDI... What else do I need? Can it be done?
I have a 99 Prelude (VTEC Base model) and I want to change the ECU to a JDM P13. I've been told that I need to change the ECU to be able to advance/retard timing. I've also read that to advance/retard timing I need to change to an OBDI dist. because the #1 cylinder sensor is in the crank instead of the dist. Has anyone ever done this? I've been thinking of just getting an AEM EMS and tune everything with my laptop since buying a new ECU, conversion harness, distributor, etc. almost comes up to the same price as the AEM EMS. Thanks for the help.
people just buy the ecu and conversion harness.
If you want to really convert the motor to OBDII you to change the ecu, wire harness, distribtor, injectors, resistor pack

Well since it seems you'll be asking the most out of a Standalone, i suggest Hondata, with that you can keep your distributor, and all your wiring but just need a chipped p28 along with the hondata stuff and just get soldered and you have yourself a standalone system that can control timing and all that good stuff way under the cost of AEM EMS.

Nah they found a way around that on the p28s, you could use another function on the p28s to open them up. I forget what it was though .
