Hondata Intake gasket and blocking off coolant Questions.
I just ordered a Hondata Intake manifold gasket to try and get my charge temps down . So from all the posts i saw they were deffault as the Race Version and if you wanted coolant flow you just cut open a slot to let it pass.
Now when i got mine it already has the coolant port in it. I called Wiredspeed and they said thats all they stock and they are checking to se3e if Hondata even sells the true Race Version anymore? Is there another way i can cap off that port without worrieing about it leaking under load? I wanna elminate all the lines to the IM , but i dont wanna worry about leaks, i have enuff probs , lol.
Let me know what you guys have done, thanks.

Hey Pete, I'm not 100% sure, but I don't know if you really want the true race version. Jeff just figured out the reason why Dustin's (the blue si from Butler) car was overheating. Turns out he had the Race version which blocked the coolant passage and the car would overheat within seconds of driving.
Did he do the rest of the steps though? Hondata says to drill holes in the thermostat, but i found a link to bypass the lines so it shouldnt over heat.
Have Jeff check this out and let me know what he thinks.

No, he didn't know that the car had that gasket on (Dustin put it on after someone told him it was the one he wanted to use and he didn't need to cut the port out), so all of the lines were still running to the IM. When Jeff took the head off and the IM, he saw that the coolant passage was bocked by the gasket, and it actually bubbled up where the coolant would have gone through.
Jeff's got a full day up at the shop. He's hoping to get Dustin's car back together this week (some other things are being done with it, not just putting the head back on), and there are two other cars at the shop that need to have some troubleshooting done. I'll have him check out the link when he gets home and I'm sure he'll give you his thoughts.

Thanks Adrea. Thats prob the problem . If that port is blocked off it wont send anything to the thermostat to open it up. . .i dont think at least. i need to look at how it all routes to make sure, but thats prob the prob.
Have him check it out when he gets some free time please. Im pretty sure that when done correctly it will help my situation quite a bit.

The guy Doug hired a while back told us all, during a Hondata lecture at Churches, that they no longer sold the race only and the gaskets no longer came with the little plastic washers either. Reason being that the washers occationally required the IM be retorqued after time and didn't make a big enough difference in cooling to be worth the phone calls they were receiving. The flow of coolant through the IM was not only required for proper cooling of the head but it didn't affect the temperature gains of cooling the IM that much. Of course I could be FOS and you should feel free to keep asking around
I've had my gasket for over a year and it keeps my desk very cool from the heat my feet generate when I lean back in my chair. If I were you I'd re-post this quest on the Hondata forums.

to me it seems that 200 degree coolant flowing into the manifold would not help charge temps.
Anyway Wiredspeed told me the same thing about the gasket structure and the washers.

does anyone know how to cap off the port coming from the head on the intake manifold? is there some kind of heavy duty plug or cap i can use? since the gasket isnt blocked off.
They have to still make the race gasket. The blockage of coolant was responsible for most of the power gain.
