Default Qs??? about code 20 .... ELD and O2 sensors.

Yesterday, the CEL came on in the civic and the speedometer was in freak mode. It would jump randomly and also jump when the revs were up, almost like a tach. Most of the lights in the dash would flicker including the CEL light, but the car seemed to be runnning okay.
We pulled the codes and it threw codes 20 (which designates a faulty ELD) 41 (which is faulty O2 circuit) anf 65 (which also is the 02) .
I checked all the grounds from the tranny, and themostat, and valve cover since ppl in others threads had mentioned that this was their problem. I was checking the wires and connections to the 02 and when I was flowing the wires from both O2 sensors back towards the themostat, they eventually merged into more wires coming from the thermostat and going to the ELD and fuse box...at the junction of all these wires is a flat "ground plate", I suppose, that looks to be bolted into another piece of metal ... but when I looked at it, there was no bolt!!

So my question is ...
Is this bolt grounding these wires?

What size bolt should it be....and can I get it at Honda or the Depot?? I was gonna just scrounge up a nut and bolt from the tool box, but the bottom plate is threaded.

Would this "ground"? be the answer to my CEL problem?

Would that cause it to throw those codes...and make my speedo go bonkers??

I think those are all the q's I had for now! Any help would be greatful. Thanks

that dosent sound too good guys, honda should have the bolt in stock, or you might try and call the salvage yard for one if they dont.

do you have a header on your car? if so i had a similiar problem with a bad connection on an OBD2 car, the problem in my case was a wire that had came loose at the connectors near the oil catch can(black box). Snapped the wire(s) back in, replaced the fuse for the ELD. called it a day. This took over 4 hours to troubleshoot in my case

have fun,
carlos

Let me make sure that I understand you right. You say there is a "grounding plate" that has a bolt missing? In other word it is free to move. If that is the case then having that bad ground is shorting the circuit and that is why that you are getting off the wall readings. Am I going in the right direction? Do you have a picture?

well...I feel like a tool!

don't think that piece was a ground at all, just some sort of clip, that happened to be metal to metal, to keep the wires from getting tangled or too close to the engine.

The CEL light came back on as soon as I started the engine, after I reset the ECU.

Still throwing the same codes.
The thing that I don't understand is... if it were the O2s that were bad, which most likely the primary one is fried....why would it throw code 20?? I know these two things are connected. Seems like its the (bad) ELD thats causing the other codes to be thrown.

I have had a CEL before b/c I replaced my cat and the O2 sensor was not hooked up, but I have an O2 simulator now for the secondary. Thats why I don't think it could be the O2s....b/c how could the secondary one be faulty if its a simulator??

anywho....

Shane and I thought too, that his off in turn 1 at Roebling the Friday before may have done something. Especially since the O2 and wires are close to the ground??

anymore help would be great. and I will do more searching??

anyone know the price for a fuse box? (before I call tomorrow for a price quote)
I think you have to replace the whole fuse box cause the ELD doesn't come seperately.

It may be that they share the same ground connection, but if not then they'd be unrelated.

I did alot of searching on H-T and I say one post where a guy said that wires from the O2s go into the ELD, so if the ELD is faulty then it would cause the sensor codes to be thrown.

I don't know anything about this, so I am just going by WOM ....
I will check the diagrams.
