Default Accident Dilemma

I got into a "minor" accident, some guy hit my rear bumper while backing up and now I got 3 options to pick from

Pic of damage

Option 1 Pocket $150 and leave the damage as is (I know someone who can wet sand and primer it for free)

Option 2 Get damage repaired by a shop that will be paid by the idiot who hit me (The thing is the place where it will get repaired is a friend of the idiot who hit me and I dont know how good of a job they do)

Option 3 Get Insurance into this

Don't let him tell you what you should do with your car if it was his fault. Just go through insurance and have it painted by a place that will garuntee their work.

Go through his insurance, get quotes from 5 places, pick the most expensive. Have the mwrite you a check, and take it to the place you trust the most.

Always report an accident, regardless of how small.

So definitely tell your insurance company about this.

Insurance company for sure...unless he'd be willing to pay for the repairs at a place of YOUR choosing. Even then, if something isn't fixed right the first time you're SOL

Insurance all the way

Never trust that "I can get my cousins brothers friends sisters hairdressers brothers fiance to fix it for you" bullshit.

go with option 3. it's his fault, he should pay for it. that is why we have insurance.

Contact ONLY his insurance company, if it was 100% his fault your insurance comp. does NOT have to even know about it, get the check(always more then youd think) and get it fixed and keep the change

yep go through insurance. Get the money and get a new painted bumper from honda. I think you can get them pre painted as long as your cars color is oem. Install it yourself. Then sell your old bumper on ebay or here.

some insurance companies like state farm will come look at it, and either cut u a LOW check, or tell u to go one of their partners and they will handle the bill, when my SI got rear ended state farm cut me a check for 115$, yes 115$ to replace n paint rear bumper, or take it to autoway honda to do it, so gl getting any cash outta this

you got screwed then. They will try to tell you what to do, but they have to let you get estimates from your own places and they have to pay one of them (they'll naturally choose the least expensive one). There's nothing that says you have to repair it or have them repair it. They should cut you a check for a true estimate. Never take an adjusters first offer!

insurance...or take it to you're body shop guy to take care of.

When my EM1 got rear ended, I just took it to my body shop guy. My dad went to school with him and I've seen his work before, he was amazing. He handled everything with insurance, I had to front 500 bucks but I got it back 2 weeks later. Def. the way to go...

Sad to say, but you are a victim of your own stupidity. Never EVER let the insurance adjuster go to you if you dont know anything about body work. Or actually, just plain dont let the insurance adjuster come look at it at all with you. Have the body shop guy you trust deal with it...that way everyone is happy. Will you see extra cash? Probably not, no. But it will get done right the first time which IMO is more important.

okay knuckle head, that might have worked for you but its a 50/50. chances are, since its a civic and he picks the MOST expensive shop to repair his damage. the insurance company is going to say, "wtf? theres no way in hell it could be that much" and then they're gonna want to send out one of their guys to take a look at the damage and they will estimate it at a low price w/ a shop that probably does shitty work.

my advice to you is, go thru insurance, but dont pick a high *** price shop, maybe a reasonable one that will probably charge 200 to 250. complain about your bumper being unaligned and tell the insurance they had to do R&I to see if anything under your bumper is bent because that costs money. then send the copy of the estimate to the insurance company. they will send you the check and then pocket that. take a good ol rag and touch up paint seeing that the damage isn't THAT unsightly and buff that **** out like a man and buy and set of tires or whatever you want. goodluck

Hey man, just go through his insurance company. You will most likely end up with a new bumper and they may even blend the paint on both sides of your car to match the new paint on the bumper. A good body shop will hook you up because they know the insurance company is paying the bill. You have to also take into consideration that there may be damage that you don't see. It's the safest and easiest route for you to just go through his insurance. Good luck with getting your car fixed!

Oh and I almost forgot, when you report the accident to his insurance company just tell them what shop you want to take your car to. They will then put an electronic claim through some kind of computer system they have to the shop you requested. Then all you have to do is drop your car off, tell them your name and claim number, and not worry about anything. The body shop will deal with an insurance adjuster. Like I said earlier, if you’re lucky enough to not have any unseen damage to your car, I wouldn't be surprised that just for the bumper/materials/labor is gona be $500- $600. I know all of this from experience, and had to learn the hard way. I made the mistake of not getting the insurance company involved and it was a very expensive mistake. But I hope you'll be smarter than I was and take my advise, because who cares, it's not gona cost you anything!
