Price for a B18C auto swap into a 95 DX Hatch/ H22A auto/B18B
I have a auto hatch. I purposely purchased an auto for my needs. I had considered swapping in a h22a auto. I have been doing some research on this. Reading up on the pros and cons. But never read any info on a auto H22A. So I have used the search button. I called a local shop in Miami which was listing a H22A with auto tranny for $1900. He said he wouldn't recommend this swap for my car. He recommended the JDM B18C with an auto tranny. He quoted me a price of $4000 installed and running. If I wanted a new timming belt and waterpump it would be an extra $150. Is this a good price for this swap? I wanted the H22a for the high tq and lower rpm power band. I've never seen or driven in an auto gsr, since they don't sell them here. But I have driven a auto Toyota Celica GTS. The gts was weak on the bottom and pulled nice on top when the cam changed over. Does anyone know of a H22a auto swap being done in a hatch? I personally don't think the auto B18C swap would be worth $4000. I believe the powerband would be to high in the revs. Does anyone know if they changed the cams in the auto B18C with more overlap to lower the powerband in the rpm range? If so what is the actual ouput of the engine now? I was also interested in a B18b auto swap. Does anyone know what kind prices this engine and swap are going for? I'm located in S Florida and looking for some good local companys with a good rep. for doing swaps.
I have never seen a Auto H22a civic. I have seen auto H22a in accords. The problem with auto swaps are that the transmissions are weak, thats why auto motors (motors that come from the factory with auto trans) have less power than a manual motor. I am not sure about H series (i do not deal with auto honda trans) but b series and d series auto trans have higher and different trans monting points. Whats the deal with auto? you need it?
I hope I helped

Well my general understanding of the lower Hp rating on auto tranny motors is they place the powerband or max hp and tq in lower rpm range. By doing this it helps out because the auto tranny power loss is greater than the manuals. And most people who drive an auto aren't looking to rev the car into the higher rpm range. So the place the power where it's most usable. By doing this they give up some max hp. I have built a turbo miata. I replaced the engine with an auto tranny motor mated with a manual tranny. The engine was down around 10 hp vs the manual one. But it's hp and tq was lower in the rpm range so the bottom to mid range was great. It did suffer a little on top end but that was fine. I have a leg injury do to a motorcycle crash and can't really drive a stick anymore. I don't really see all of the auto trannys as being weak. I currently have a 95 240sx auto with a 95 BLKTOP SR20DET with auto tranny. I'm one of the few to have this swap. I have a few mods like DP,EH,fuel pump,BC. It runs low 14's. Which is fine for now. With a SAFC and a Front mount intercooler and some tunning I'm sure it will hit 13's.
Yes, but you do not have an auto honda trans. They are weak. I understand your leg injury, but you will not be able to put a lot higher HP than stock cause of the trans.
I ho pe i did not come off as an ***.

Not at all. If I was to have a jdm h22a/auto installed in my hatch. I would want a stock intake maybe throw in a K&N oem style filter and an exhaust because the stock exhaust wouldn't be any where near big enough. And that's probably about it. If the stock tranny can handle the stock hp/tq than I should be fine. I mean with the stock hp of the h22a, if you go by the specs would be 98hp and over 60 lb ft of tq over what I have now. I think that would be a nice jump in performance. I want my car to be nice and quiet. Just have some punch. I'm not looking to have the fasted thing out there. Just to have a little fun. And add a little bottom end which I think the h22a would give me when I go to pull out in traffic and such. So far, I have made minor mods which have made great improvements in the car itself. Dropzone coilover sleeves/shocks,Fr Strutbar,ST swaybars,SI wheels & a CF Duckbill spoiler for an added touch. I have front and rear lips which I haven't install yet. This is my daily driver car and I want to keep it simple. I don't want to make a mistake and purchase a swap I'm not going to be happy with. I had trouble with the 240 swap and it took a while to get bugs out. Now it's great. It feels like a rocketship compared to the EG. Do you know if the motor mounts for the h22a swap are solid/ rigid? I don't know if I used the correct term for that question. I'm not looking for something to shake the filling out of my teeth.
Sweet, Sounds like you are getting a nice car together.

Most mount kits have prethunre (sp?) mount so it will shake a bit. But (not to my knowledge) do they make a transmission mount to mount a auto h-series transmission into a auto EG chassis.

Well you do have a good enough reason to want an auto. I have never dealt with an auto honda but my ford zx2's tranny was water. It almost broke at 35,000 miles, now that is weak. I don't think that honda's tranny would ever be that weak.
You also have to look at the point that an h22a/auto swap in an eh2 has way less load that the auto in the lude itself.
Good luck, I haven't seen this done before, that doesn't mean that it hasen't but I know that it won't be easy.

Yeah I'll have to do some research and see if there is a way to mount the h22a in my car. What do you think about the price I was given on the B18C install? Is that the going rate or would I be getting raped? I read something about a guy installing a JDM B16A2 auto SiR II. Does anyone know the specs on this engine. I would think the B18C would be more powerful but I don't know for sure.

Well, Manual JDM swap go for about $3200. So you about $800 for labor and all the BS with it. That is not that bad condering it is a shop that is doing it. You figure that Labor alone will cost you about $600 - $1300.

It is a torqueless wonder. If you are going to get an auto swap, get a B18c.
