Default Manual rack conversion (universal joint issue)

I couldn't really find the exact answer I was looking for, but does anyone know if the shaft on the steering column is the same size between power/manual? I ask because I just put a manual rack in my car and got the new knuckle, the input shaft to the rack fits fine, but the side that connects to the column doesn't. I seems the shaft is too big. I checked part numbers and they look to be the same.

I stripped two bolts trying to pinch it to the column though and when I look, the bolt appears to be touching the shaft. This would make sense as to why it's stripping if it's cross threading due to the shaft pushing it at a weird angle.

I may just go to home depot and get a thinner bolt and pinch on the outside of both sides, as I may have just screwed up the threads on my first attempt. I was just wondering if this happened to anyone else.

The column side of the joint is the same for all 92-00 civics and integras I believe because I used a 92 CX joint on my 96 EX column and it worked fine. The only difference is the manual racks have a smaller shaft so the universal joint is smaller on that side.

There is a flat side on the steering column shaft that needs to be lined up with the bolt hole. I think you might be trying to run the bolt through where it is splined and that would not work.

what car is this???

I have done a power to manual rack conversion on my ej1, had no problems.
I got a 94 dx manual rack, just unbolted the old rack and bolted in the new. make sure you measure the tire rods, and toe, to try to get as close as possible to going stright. then go get an alinment. make sure it's all good

It's a 97 hx, putting in a 96 dx rack. Everything else went smotthly, just the universal joint issue. I didn't notice anything special on the splines, but I'll check again tonight. If not then I'll just assume I either need to retap the hole or just put a nut on the other side.
