Replacing Valve Seals... How?
There is a WAY to do it with head on the block for sure. Friend of mine had this done but guy in the service shop didn't want to tell us how...
its no big secret, all you really do is pull off the cams, and pump compressed air into the spark plug hole to keep the valves from dropping. then get teh snap on tool that compresses the valve springs.
basically u pull the valve sprigns off, and then u can replace ur seals and put everyhting back together.

it is possible....you need an air compressor (to keep the valve from falling into the cylinder), a fitting that will screw on where the spark plug is so taht you can put constant air into the cylinder.

Well,
I just cheaped out... It'll be easier to pull the head off and replace it.
I found a guy that replaced his valve seals and rebuilt the head on his H22A4 (70kM on it).
I just bough his head for $500.00 (cams and all)... So I'll just take mine off and bolt that one on.
Wonder how hard that's going to be??
-grin-

ya what they said. Basically same procedure as changing valve springs/retainers with the head on. You can also use the "rope trick." Pull the spark plug, turn the crank to lower the piston on the cylinder you want to work on, thread a length of clean rope down the spark plug hole. Raise the piston to pack the rope against the valves to hold them up. Reverse process to re-assemble...

Heh, that's pretty cool . . . . I love clever lazy people.

I've also heard of the rope trick....
Just pop out the old springs and retainers, use some needle-nose vise grips to wiggle the old seals off, then use a 10mm deep-well socket and an extension: sit the seal onto the stem, put the end of the socket onto the end of the seal, then tap the seal onto the stem.
Another trick at getting the valve springs back on: when you're putting the retainer clips back onto the valve end, use a little vaseline on the end of the valve ot make the clips stick to the valve until you decompress the spring. Also, a pen-magnet may be very helpful.
