Default how do u find bhp from whp or whp to bhp

is there a way to convert at the wheel whp to at the flywheel bhp

forexample if u have 150 bhp how can u find out what whp u have wihtout a dyno, is ther like a math formula or does it just depend on how well the car brings power to the wheels 3

and how much bhp does i/h/e add (not to the wheels)

generally i think they account for like a 17% drop in the drivetrain but that of course VARIES!!!

i think i remember reading somewhere that its AROUND 15% loss for manual and 25% loss for auto... dont quote me on that tho

all i know is that a manual is the way to go for more use of ur available power

It is moslty rule of thumb but I most commonly hear 85% of your bhp is brought to the wheels. With other factors included as well: Transmission(if manual, clutch) and how efficient the engine is(compared to factory condition) and last of all, manufacturer claims. Sometimes high, sometimes low. Skyline r34 is underrated by Nissan at 276bhp I believe. According to some tuner mag I was reading the Skyline r34 stock puts out closer to 315bhp. It is very hard if not impossible to estimate hp accurately without actually dyno testing.

bhp=brake horsepower

and it will vary on what engine, what tranny, fwd vs rwd....

best wya to do it is get an engine dyno and a chassis dyno to see.

how would you dyno that....take off the wheels, and let the rotars spin on the dyno ????

honsetly, wtf is brake horsepower?? (sorry for the newbish question)

Brake horsepower is a measure of acutal usable horsepower delivered at the engine crankshaft. Brake Horsepower is not constant: it increases with speed. the name came from prony brake, a device that used to measure bhp LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago.

dont let the name fool you, it have nothing to do with your rotor and caliper

BPH=RxLxW / 5252

R-engine RPM

L-length from the center of the drive shaft to the point where the beam is pressure on the scale(read: prony brake)

w-weight as registered on the scale

did i answer your question?

and don't be ashame to ask question, i bet not much people know the actual meaning of bhp

i dyno'd 185whp so id say about 217bhp. about 17% drivetrain loss.

hei ar..but you would able to work on a prony brake unless your last name is honda or ford, they are MAD expensive.
