ecm mounting ? for anyone with hondata.
well i got my s200 done in my 99 civic dx coupe. but the new p28 from hondata, does not fit in the regular ecm location. it is almost twice the size, of the regular gsr ecm. (i have a b18 swap BTW)
what have you guys done with yours?? myu buddies at the stereo shop can make me a false floor for it in the passenger side foot well. and i was thinkin about just runnin the bblue box to the glove box, to keep it accessible for tunning purpose.

so where do u mount the new oversized ecm? cause it no longer fits in the stock location, cause it is about 1.5 times the size.
Crazy, I had no clue Hondata was getting into ECMs! I thought they only dealt in Honda ECUs.

I only know of two GM powered cars I've seen personally; GM Sean's 730 ECM equipped '85 turbo Accord, and Jared's DFI (GM ECM based) Civic. Both just tucked it in place of the stock one, I think Sean's is zip tied down.
... but to answer your question seriously, I've seen a couple 99-00 Si's running OBD1 ECUs laid into the pass footwell with a nice metal cover over them, a la OEM 88-91 Civic or 90-93 Integra setups.

LOL, yeah, that was Sean's original A20 basemap. You'd be surprised how well it runs the engine... looks almost exactly like LS ignition curve, but the timing drops off real quick at 3-4 psi, almost excessively. I'm not a big fan of them, due to how well the Honda ECU has been reverse engineered and the fact I won't own another GM because I hate them mechanically, but they get the job done.

The guy I know that runs this setup is the son of the owner of http://www.speartech.com
He has quite a nice shop and does a lot with EFI GM vehicles. Quite interesting that his had does so much with V8's but helps his son with the rice rocket.

ok not sure where all this GM talk came from?? but anyway, yes hondata does sell ecms. it is niot made by them. it is just a p28, that they chip themselves, plus it has an obd1 plug put on it instead of the obd2. if u buy a p28 yourself. and pay someone else to do the chip for you. it basically works out o the same price as buying it rite from hondata. but from hondata i get a warranty.
but yeah the new ecm is huge compared to the old GSR ecm.(PO7 or something i think) so bassically it does not even close to fit in the passenger side kick panel in front of the door anymore. and im getting sick of it just layin on the floor. and i dont want it to get hurt. it looks like it might just bolt to the bottom of the glove compartment. but i was lookin for some other ideas. cause im sure someone else here has the same set-up

Uh, no. ECM is General Motors terminology... I'm going to be as **** about this as a Ford guy would be if you asked him if he had a Posi-Trac rear end.
And I answered your Q if you'll reread the thread. You're asking for input from people who own one vehicle and have limited perspective... I deal in Honda ECUs and OBD1 conversions and tuenaring; I see two to three 6G Civics and their ECU fitments per month.

so you see umpteen amount of civics with hondatas, and you have only ever seen the ecu under a false floor?? like i said in my original post. this was the idea i was gonna run with probably. but i wanted some other ideas people may have seen. so maybe i wont have to lose any room in the passenger footwell.

Jared's DFI just kinda hangs out in the area the stock ECU goes, unfastened, 98 EX. Kevin's 99 Si had the ECU under a false floor - and you couldn't notice any loss of passenger footwell, the works is less than 3" deep and going up the firewall, not the floorboard itself. On Derek's 98 CX we just zip tied the P28 in place where the stock one went. I can't think of any other OBD2 cars I've seen this week, sorry!
It occurs to me that this is a stupid question.
