Default Turbo Experts...please help...Ok to have turbo with high miles?

What up...i have a 1994 Vtec Prelude and id really like to turbo it soon. I was thinking a Fmax kit or something like that. I dont wanna run to much boost...maybe 9 to 10 max. Im scared about having to many problems though. I might need this car for a daily driver. I have 79k miles on my car right now...is it safe to put a turbo on there? I know i cant get to boost crazy...also...would i have a problem passing smog? i live in California. Thanks Guys...any more info would help out a lot.

You will not pass smog with a turbo kit on your car, especially in CA.

The miles shouldn't matter that much. Do a compression test. And don't expect to pass smog, it can be done though.

**** yes, as long as the compression and leakdown is straight. I have a Civic with 102K on it and will be turbo soon. My comp numbers are in my sig, as I think they attest to Honda motor quality and my excellent maintanance.
As far as Smog I have no idea since we do not care out here in the back woods of MI.

In California, you should be able to pass the actual smog test (if the cat is still on), but not the visible inspection. I think I heard this from one of Ben's posts.

you should be able to pass the sniffer but you wont even get that far. They wont even put your car on the dyno if they see a turbo on there.

just smog it illegally.. body shops specialize in this hehehe.. you just bring in a registration copy.. pay 150 pesos in two days its registered.. they prolly find a car like yours and just smog it.. and run your numbers.. i give them hassle free.. guaranteed to pass hehehehe

it is a bit expensive but then again if your motor is heavily modified it aint worth putting it back to stock then putting it all together again.

Uh, as far as I know, all Honda engines are JDM? Besides the engine VIN # (assuming they know how to decipher the Vin#'s) , howelse can they spot a JDM engines?

As long as all the emission controls are on it's still legal, correct?

They'd have to spend the time to match VIN#'s with the serial # stamped on the block.

As for the miles:

I have 231K on my CRX and it has been turbo for a while (~1500). no problems at all. I thought it would crap-out on me with the turbo, but it keeps going and going and going and going and going.....

Randy

Smog sucks. A turbo may borderline pass a sniffer but noway pass inspection unless you pay someone for it.
