changing tranny fluid.. a few questions!
Ok guys, getting ready to change my tranny fluid, going with Amsoil 2000 75w90(equiv. to 10w30 or so motor oil, just MUCH better lol)..
I can't find a frickin haynes manual for my lude around here, guess i have to order one, but how many quarts do i need?
also, I'm not to familiar with FWD transmissions, is the differential part of the transmission?
one more thing... where is the fuel filter? near the tank?
(you can tell i used to have a truck haha...)

Take off the passenger side front wheel, and right above and to the left of the axle is a bolt that stands out on the side of the tranny....That is the fill spot...
Make sure the car is level as it would be without the wheel off...I usually put one jack underneath it and jack it up so it just touches the frame, then take the wheel off and then lower it until it barely touches said jack...
Take the bolt off and you'll have to run a hose down from the top into the hole...Then put a funnel on the hose and slowly fill it up with your oil until it leaks out....Yeah, you just have fill until it's even with the hole...

thanks for the tips/procedure!
do you know how many quarts it will take though? Amsoil is $$$ and I don't wanna buy to little and have to wait to get more in!
Thanks again,
Garan

and since when is 75w90 (gear oil) equivilent to 10w30 motor oil?
David</TD></TR></TABLE>
isn't it' a bit more than that? around 2.5L?
and i was wondering the same thing myself... 75w90 is not 10w30 motor oil... numbers don't vary with the type of oil, oil is oil and viscosity is measured the same way. who told you this?

you don't have to take the wheel off to drain it
just jack the car up and get under there and undo the drain bolt
then when it's all drained put the bolt back in and drop the car
back down then it will be level. it takes about 2.0-2.1 qts
so you better buy 3 unless you spill a little bit

GM Syncromesh works wonders in 5G manual trannies... so that means it'll work well in 4G trannies as well.
I use it in mine 5 speed and the results were day and night over Redline MTL.
I understand the Pennzoil Syncromesh is the same a GM... but I'm not certain of that.

75w90 in the transmision is equivalent to 10w30 in the engine because the reference temperatures are different for those two parts. It works out to the same effective viscosity.
oh yeah and the fuel filter is on the firewall, you can reach it from above the car simply with the hood open. once you have the part, its easy to tell exactly where it is.
difference in reference temperatures must be fairly significant for the viscosity to go from 75 to 10 and 90 to 30...

thanks, 3 quarts it is.. ah ill have to look for the filter again, thanks for all the tips!
I'm a hardcore amsoil user.. lol, but i have heard alot of good things about synchromesh..

No. It's in the engine bay near the fire wall under the brack booster/master cylindar area. It's a PITA to change.
Get a Helm inc. shop manual for the prelude they are great!

actually i think he has a 4th gen. in which case the fuel filter would be on the passenger side fire wall (in the engine bay). just follow the fuel line from the fuel rail and you'll find it (it looks like a lil canister). and its easy to change.
