Default b-series machine work.

hey i just had a few questions before i have my block machined. im building it myself. b16, b17 crank and rods, usdm itr pistons, gsr girdle and block guard. now how much should i be paying for them to hot tank it, install the block guard, line bore the mains, bore the sylinders .25mm over and hone them, deck the engine .015", remove b17 pistons, mill pistons to accept b17 rods, and install new wristpins. then set ring gaps. if you guys know how much you paid and have broken down prices please post. i dont want to get ripped off.
also any1 know the size i need to open the pistons up to for the b17 rod to fit?
thanks alot guys.

A couple of things you might you might think about.Block guards probably cause more problems than they cure. They distort and stress the cylinders and block.Hondas open deck design is the best setup for 99% of the cars out there. The B16 block is pretty strong until you really start boosting or have a really bad tune.Same goes for the girdle. If you don't have main line damage or missing the original caps, don't mess with the original bore. There's hundreds of engines out there making lots more power without girdles. Now with that said, its your build. The caps will usually clean up with a line hone. This leaves a better surface finish than a line bore. Shops get around $100 to do a line hone.Hot tank is about $30-$35,cylinders can be hone +.25mm for $25-$30 each,$20 for block guard install (more if you wanted it welded in or it takes block milling to make it fit),Deck the block is around $45,piston and rod work around $75 to $100,file fit ring about $40.You might want to rebuild the rods will ARP rod bolts, around $100 including bolts.

also you could get a little higher compression by using either PR3 pistion (b16a) or PCT pistons (b16b)

and i too agree that the block guard is a no go
also there is a lot of stuff that you could do yourself instead of paying the machine shop to do

If its a turbo you don't want ITR pitons.ITR pistons will give you around 9.8 to 1.LS pistons would give you about 9.1 to 1.Your best bet would be a forged piston.SRP are the best deal out there. If your going with low boost,8.5 to 9.0 is a good start.

i beg to differ about the srp being the better pistons to go with. endyn has the cheapest prices on pistons ive seen. and they have all different types and sizes. whereas with srp, you will be very limited in piston compression ratios.

anyway back to the original topic. i payed 1000$ canadian. to have my b18c1. hot tanked, bored, fully assembled, balnced. and the head assembled, port and polished.

hopefully that gives u some type of idea.

why would i want low compression on a turbo motor? I drive around town alot and will be out of boost alot of the time. If you just think i should be on the safe side, or think high c/r and boost will be hard to tune. then just wait till i lay down numbers and daily drive it for a few years. also as far as aftermarket pistons go, im definately thinking cp pistons are the best on the market.
as far as compression goes, i should be up around 10.2:1 before the motors decked. btw the itr pistons are at swain right now being coated.
any idea what 1000 canadian is in us $?
