Default Turbo and a/c. Why cant I have both? grrrrrrr

Ok my a/c sucks and before anyone says anything about removing it, right now its not an option but it might be if I cant get this thing to work better. To begin I have GSR w/ a sleeved motor, a civic sized fluidyne radiator, FAL fan, and a big FMIC. I also have a 10" summit fan 1000 cfm fan on the condensor but I dont think it does much. After 10 minutes of regular driving the a/c just gets plain hot.

I took it to an a/c guy and he says there is not enough air passing through my condensor and all the extra added heat from the turbo and mods doesnt help either. He hit the condesor with an air compressor for 10 secs and the a/c jumped 5 degrees cooler instantly.

He recommended these options. I could cut out the front bumper support and put slim fans in front of the condensor, but I really dont feel like doing that plus with the intercooler I have they might not fit anyways. He recommended I could put another FAL fan or stock GSR fan after the condensor in place of my 10" puny fan. I tried the GSR fan and it didnt fit. The FAL fan is $100 that I dont want to spend. Or he said I could cut two holes in my front bumper next to the Acura symbol to let it ventilate better. This really sucks but if anyone out there knows a better solution to this problem, please let me know.

take the air to air out . and go with an air to liquid setup , im asuming the intercooler blocks the airflow to the a/c

you don't exactly have to cut your bumper support, just hack the little bar that supports the hood latch. The friggin hood latch is bolted to the frame anyway, so I don't think it's that big a deal...

Yea i took off the bumper cover and without cutting the latch support, I tried to fit a 10" slim fan but was unsuccessful. Aside from the fan hitting the latch support, the fan was hitting the intercooler on the bottom (the intercooler is 3.5 inches thick and almost touches the condensor). Im going to have to look at it again. I think if I could fit a 10" slim fan in front of the condensor and put a 12" FAL 1200 cfm on the back side, I may be able to fix this.

Oh yea on a side note, during the day in the sun the a/c gets warm in about 10 minutes of regular driving. I took it for a spin in the evening for 20 minutes and it stayed cold throughout.

In my current setup the downpipe is too close to the condensor. for the 1st few minutes of driving the AC is cool. But after that at idle on a hot day it's barely cooler than outside. On my next upgrade I'm going to get a custom tubular exhaust manifold to move the turbo away from the AC.

You said it get's plain hot, you sure it doesn't need a re-charge? Also, are you sure there is not a problem with your heating duct, like maybe some air is still passing through the heater in the car?

no its full, i just got it filled at an a/c shop last week. Ive wrapped all the refrigerant hoses with heat wrap, that run near the turbo and IC pipes. I have some thermo tec heat wrap laying around and Im going to wrap the dp up because maybe everything little thing helps.

I really think it has to do with getting more air flow through the engine. The IC is blocking the **** out of the air dam and there is a lot less air flow reaching the engine compartment. Right now im thinking about doing all of this: more powerful fans, more fans working in conjunction, and as a last result - cutting out two slits in the bumper cover and getting a vented hood OR finally changing my IC to a narrow and tall intercooler to allow more air passage.

Which intercooler you have? I have a teg with the precision intercooler and it takes up pretty much my whole bumper. On the side of the endtanks there is a lil gap where air can rush through. I am hoping I do not have a problem with this issue.

Find some way to duct some air across your condenser. I kow I'm going to rig up something innovative once my intercooler gets here and I slap my setup together. There's no way in hell I'm giving up my AC. I might even go as far as repiping my condenser and relocate it to some other place in the engine bay and slap a slim fan on it.
I do AC work for a living so it wouldn't really be a big deal for me.
But see if you can get a slim line fan to work on that condenser. Those high head pressures are hell on your compressor. Keep an eye, or better yet, and ear on it.

Its dejavu that you say that because the a/c guy and I were saying if worst comes to worst, we could pull the condensor out of the engine bay and put it somewhere else under the car somewhere and run new lines ...as for the pressure, he did not fill the system completely with refrigerant so the pressure does not get too high.

do you think a 10" fan on the front side of the compressor will do it or will I be wasting my time because the fan wont be pulling any new fresh cooler air in, it may just blow more hot air across the condensor and do nothing. Should I cut some neat rectangular holes in the front bumper cover near the acura sign and maybe get a vented hood? on second thought the hood may not be cost effective for me.

I read in some tuner magazine, that about 90 percent of tuners use intercoolers that are bigger than they really need. Get a smaller one. you could prolly sell your big one and buy a smaller one and the fans you need.
