Default Tranny for Road Track

My brother and I are building a H1 Race Car(CRX). My question is, which tranny is better for road race? B16 cable/hydro? Cable is cheaper, but would hydro be better for the long run? If you guys could help out at all. As much input as possibler would be great. Thanks in advance

Calbe vs. Hydro in and of itself doesn't make much difference.

I'd think the big concern is parts availability for either. Which type of tranny can you get the gear ratios, LSD, and FD that are most desirable?

Why don't you just leave the stock engine in and run H4?

As far as your question, a cable tranny would be an easier install and cheaper I'd think...

Christian, who sometimes marvels at how alluring H1 must be but would probably be happier in H4...

Well the cable will strech on you after a lot of use...not sure about availability/cost of new transmission cables. With a hydraulic system you have to worry about eventual hose replacement or damage that could cause line to leak fluid. It's a 50/50 choice to me... Of course you will have to plumb your own hydraulic lines for the CRX since it didn't come with the hardware/plumbing for a hydraulic clutch.

And if you are interested in a nice cable transmission I have one for sale! (see signature below.)

Go with the Hydro. I ran a cable in my CRX earlier this season, but recenlty switched to a Hydro Tranny because you cant find (besides Stock) an aftermarket LSD for the cable. And believe me you want an LSD. + the Hydro is more heavy duty, has more parts availiable. Don't go cheap when it comes to racing. Youll pay sooner or later

Huh? I bought a B18C CRX. From what I was told I have a cable set up but hydro "innards" YS1 tranny. So the tranny should have the heavier duty internals and it is hooked up to a quaife LSD. Maybe I missed something here since I am new to Hondas.

I thought so to, But the main difference it the input shaft is smaller, Like a D series on a cable, and I believe that the case is smaller too, compared to the Type R that I ended up with. See im using a 4.9 and ended up needing a Type R tranny. Internally I guess they are the same except for the input shaft and case.

These are the type of questions that I do not understand... If someone wants to run H4 then that is what they are going to run. Why does it matter if someone is planning on running H1, H4, or any other class?

you can use the hydro parts in a YS1. talk to gearspeedef9(james) he works for http://gear-speed.com. they can make a nice transmission suited for your setup (carbon coated synchros, various gear ratios, final drive kits and LSDs). james is also a road racer himself so he knows what works.

A tranny like that would not be legal for Honda Challenge.

youll have to excuse my lack of knowledge for the rules. why wouldnt it be allowed? if its non oem part rule, everything they use is genuine honda (except for some final drives and lsds).

While not meaning to hijack the thread but the prior owner didn't know how to rev match and the third gear synchro is getting "crunchy". Any ideas about what shops charge and part costs generally to replace a synchro?

thanks i just looked over that and the only thing i found was this in section 9.5:
Final drive ratio is unrestricted. All other gearing must remain stock.
do they mean stock as in oem honda gears or stock as is in what ever gearing was in the transmission must remain the same? (ex. LS transmission must retain LS gears) i suppose if the latter was the case that would only limit your ratio choices, the transmission is still legal. im not missing something am i?
