Default Car won't start unless its jumped..plz help?

Hey, I have a 96 accord and after getting off work I turned off my car and went to grab something, when I got back my car wouldn't start. The gauges would turn on, windshield wipers worked..headlights didn't..nor would my head unit.

I get a jump from my moms car and it starts fine...seemed to start slower then usual. I let the alt charge the battery for 5-6 mins then unhooked the jumper cables and turned my car off. When I tried to start it again the same thing happened..wouldnt start.

I don't know much about cars, but im guessing that either I need a new battery or my alt is charging my battery. I don't want to buy a battery unless I have to (no money). I'm guessing this happened because I have alot of drain on my battery from my system etc.. Would buying a better battery work or would I need a more powerful alt?

Thanks for any help guy..

Your alternator might be going out and is not fully charging your battery or your battery is dead and can no longer hold a charge. Take it to autozone and have them checked out for free or to wal-mart and buy a cheap battery from them. For high wattage systems I recommend getting and Optima battery for less than 150.00 depending on where you go. Goodluck!

i doubt anything is wrong with the alt, but yeah take it to autozone or the like and they can tell u if its the bat/alt/both, but chances are its the bat, not sure on what is included in ur system, but if its amp/subs then most people will rec. the optima yellowtop, expensive yes but will last a long time, if its just the alarm and a diff radio then yellowtop is not needed, and ur alarm doesnt do that much to the battery....

Thanks alot guys. I'll try and buy one of those optima batterys..hopefully they sell em at walmart. I have 800 rms watts going to my subs and 200 rms watts going to my fronts. I think the battery is just old..thats what i am hoping at least...

Also, since my system worked fine months before this happened...would I really need an expensive battery? I wouldn't mind spending the extra money if I thought buying a cheaper one would put me back in the same place I am now.

BTW, thanks for such a quick response...damn! lol

I am leaning towards your battery being dead but check it first anyways. Also if you have a system then your better going with the yellow top optima to avoid problems again in the future. Also make sure that all your connections are nicely secured. THat might be draining your battery. I dont think they sell optimas at wal-mart. Maybe pepboys or autozone.
