Default Need LSvtec advice!

ok. so i had intended to build my b16 to a mild degree and then be done. however, when i had asked questions about upgrading to ctr pistons to make the most out of my skunk2 stage2 cams many asked why i was wasting my time/money on a 1.6 when i would have much more potential to deal with out of a 1.8-2.0

so i have aquired a b18a from a 91 integra gs. it has approx 60k miles on it. The head of my b16 is mildly built. I was list what I already have and what I know or think I should order on top of this. Plz advize me on what parts i need to add or should drop.

JDM b16 head - aebs i/m, hondata i/m gasket, skunk2 stage2 cams, skunk2 springs/retainers, new cam seal, new dizzy, aem fpr and fuel rail, venom fuel pump.

accesories - obx 4-2-1 header, 2.5" test pipe, full 2.5" exhaust, dc sports intake, generic wires and plugs.

ordering - golden eagle vtec kit (http://www.groupbuycenter.com/buy.aspx?id=15311), usdm itr pistons/rings (http://www.inlinefour.com/usspecintypp.html), arp head studs and rod bolts.

some ppl have said that aftermarket rods are a must? i dont beat on my motors, but it will see some street time.
Thanks for all ur advice.

who ever told you aftermarket rods are a must has to be trying to sell you their rods. all you need is $40 arp rod bolts and your good to go, and if you want to rev it to 9rpm then shot peen would not be a bad idea but its not a must.
also put this on top of your list as is def a must.

i agree about the water/oil pumps. if you have the extra cash then get rods and pistons because i dont think stock pistons go on forged rods w/o a machince shop. ive been looking at probe rods for my future engine. id shotpeen them at the very least tho. but thats me. you dont HAVE to, but it be safer and stronger if you did.

my engine is still stock. so what do i know??

hey, howd you get a 91 b18 w/ only 60k??? good find. thats way low mileage

and make sure you replace every seal and bearing on the engine. so it be like a new engine.

i have a little over 1500 miles on my ls/vtec swap and its running great. i know i havent been running it long enough to dispel all the myths, but i did pretty much what everyone on this thread has said so far. all new bearings and seals, vtec oil and water pumps, and stock LS rods shot peened with ARP rod bolts.

if you have a b16 do this.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=815614

It will give you less problems, it will look like a 1.6. An you will be fast. Plus its cheaper then building a new motor .

a- why would it give me less problem? itd be swapping parts on a b16 block and changing bore to make it an ls block. im swapping parts to make a b18 block like a b16 block, already has the bore (well stroke really).

b- i dont think thats a less expensive option for me. not even close really.

Ive read and re-read that whole thread prior to this, and i dont really see it workin for me.

did you actually click on the "Applications" link?

Unless you have a Chevy or Mopar, you arent getting them for $68 from that site..

A - The motor only cost 2grand

B - The head and lock were ment to be on one another, no predrilling ****, nothing extra needed.

C - All it is, is a 81.5 bore, ls crank/rods, in a 1.6 block.

If thats more work, then you think your doing now you have some issue's.
An mostly I highly doubt your only spending 2 grand ona fully blue printed monster like that one that he sell's. You obviously didn't read it enough.

i already have a b16 and a b18... but after rereading the tech43 post im thinkin about gettin the 81.5mm stroker kit.

it would give me the exact compression that im told my skunk2 cams like and i wouldnt have to worry about changin the oil/water pumps, timing belt, bearings, etc.

ill just take out the ls crank and rods and get them shot peened...

sounds good to me, what do yall think?
