1995 civic DX
Ok his dumass swapped in an EX 1.6 vtecmotor because the DX 1.5 motor that he had snapped a rod.

He is still using the ECU from the DX motor. He told me the only difference was that the EX ecu is the vtec.

I dont know anything about hondas but i doubt this.

He is still surprised why his car is still failing.

HMM maybe cause your running the dam wrong ECU,

Oh and he is running Lean.

Am i right or wrong?

NOx emissions are a direct result of high exhaust gas temps which cause the creation of NOx emissions. either his EGR sys is not working (dunno if that motor even uses an EGR, but an EGR is designed to reduce EGTs), or it's his computer. Now, if he bumped his fuel pressure a few points and retarded the timing a bit, perhaps he could lower his EGTs enough to pass emissions. Ultimately, the solution is a P28 ecu for the D16Z6 motor.
