5Spd Transmission differences from 88-91
Hey Guys,
Are there any 5spd tranny differences between the years? Or are all 5spd Si / DX tranny's the same across the board?
Reason I ask is, I got a tranny from a junkyard a while back as a temporary solution for my car. I was told it was taken from a 1990 Civic Si, my car's a 1991 civic Si. The tranny plugged in fine, and seemed to work well.
However, recently it started having problems (input shaft bearing) so I rebuilt a 1991 Si tranny (also dead input shaft bearing) that I picked up and stuck that in my car.
Yesterday, I took apart the tranny from the autowreckers, and everything seemed the same as the 91 I'd just put in. Except for one thing, the Input Shaft bearing was much smaller than the 91 Si bearing...
Now, either they gave me a 1.5L tranny, or there were some differences between the tranny's over the years.
Anyone able to clear this up for me?

This -might- help.
In this thread the differential bearings are discussed by "jlicrx", but it may apply to other bearings within the tranny as well???

they probably gave you a non si tranny. the si tranny has a code stamped on it like pl/3000. search for tranny codes and it'lll tell you whats what. there is definitely a difference though. the code is stamped by the passenger side axle.
DX and Si trannies have the same 1-5 gears
the final drive changes
DX=3.88
Si=4.25
also the bearings inside the tranny are smaller than the ones on the Si
i beleive they are 10mm smallers...
like i always post.. SEARCH
look by the oil fill plug..

What's the final drive on the ZC?
I know a hybrid ZC tranny with the Si FD gives you shorter gearing. In theory, Si gears with the ZC FD would result in long gearing. I don't know how long though... maybe it's the same FD as the DX?
