L3 ???
L3's came from civic/crx 88-91. unfortunately there's no way to tell them apart if it's from dx/hf/std/si. hope someone can break down the transmission codes too cause i just picked up one myself. told me it was from an si but of course i wouldn't know if it's really from an si
L3=88-91 codes
PL3/A100
PL3/A000
PL3/A900
PL3/A300
all these are DX/HF/STD/etc
PL3/1000
PL3/9000
PL3/3000
all these are Si trannys
u see this code stamped close to where the fill plug is

Maybe you know this one also...I got swindled online by a dude supposedly selling me a B16 tranny from a "Civic Si". As you know the only Civic Si with a B16 was a hydro tranny in the 99-00 model. Anyways what I got was a cable tranny, so I was bent about that. Furthermore the sticker on top was scraped off so I couldn't tell the code. AFter cleaning the case I found the numbers you guys are talking about "PL3" but I think mine says B000 rather than all those other numbers. He also sent me axles but it's the 3-axle setup with a mid-shaft. Could this be from the dohc D16? I'm not too familiar with stuff earlier than 5th gen...thanks.

sorry to disagree, but i work on these things all the time and have at least a dozen here in the shop - those numbers are casting numbers for the back half of the case and are indication of what size differential bearings it has - PL3/1000, 3000, etc. have the large bearings - PL3/A000, etc. have the small bearings - i have 88 Si transmission that says PL3/A000 - have DX that says PL3/3000 - have DX that says PL3/9000 (which has the tag on the top instead of the front and says SL3-#####) - have two ZC transmissions which say PL3/3000 and one ZC that says PL3/9000 - also have 4 speed that is PL3/A000 - i can guarantee you that you can't tell by looking at the outside - another Honda myth
