Default prelude motor trouble

yea wadup, i have a h22a1 that came stock in my prelude, and i am having reving trouble, it doesn't seem like the vtec is kicking, cause i don't feel it. the guy who had it before me tried everything to get it to work, so we figured out it's that there's no oil pressure to the vtec pressure switch. to make a long story short.. it doesn't run like this car should. also it hits a rev limiter at about 6500 rpm's or a lil more, almost 7000. like half the time there's no vtec boost that you can feel and i know it should pull harder than that. lemme know wat you think

i believe its b/c your in "limp" mode...it make the fuel cut-off at 6800 with no VTEC. Search for limp mode and you'll find this same topic covered

if there is no check engine light on, then the car will hit a 6500 tev limit only when the requirements of vtec arn't met. happend to me when i didn't have enough oil, hence i couldn't get enough oil pres to the head.

yea man, thats exactly what i think it is. i really dont think there's enough oil pressure through head, infact i know that cause i checked oili pressure at front of motor and there was none, but at back it was fine. lemme know wat you did to fix yours, kuz i believe we have the exact samme problem. thanks man

dude your oil pickup could be damaged and you're slowly grenading your motor with low oil pressure get that bottom end looked at ASAP

yea, well it's been runnin likke this for like a year i guess, kuz it was runnin like this for the guy before me and he had it a year. under the valve cover, the whole top end looks very healthy. it was looked at, and looks real good. the head is rebuilt. wat should i look for in bottom end damage. do you suggest i get the oil pan replaced. the dent is real small but still....

Like Joel said, you need to drop your oil pan and take a look
at it, the oil pickup tube could be damaged, and if not you can
fix that dent and pop it out at least or replace your oil pan.

You never said if you had a CEL. You could also check the wiring and the VTEC solenoid. You're running in limp mode for sure at VTEC rpms.

well guys, other day i finally got a cel, i hit 105 mph and it came on, code 21 (vtec solenoid valve) it only comes on when i get that fast, i dont know why it's coming on, maybe because i am not getting enough oil pressure for some reason. or, for some reason there is a cut and reattached wire by the ecu, its the vtec solenoid switch wire too. idk who the **** would cut it, but it was reattached by the previous owner and i am wondering if maybe it is a bad connection. not sure, thanks guys the help is great, i am gonna figure this car out. the three prevoius owners couldn't , BUT I WILL, and with your guy's help that is.

You should pull that pan off before you do any other work. Get that fixed and make sure the pick up isn't damaged. Then work on the solenoid.
