For no wiring differences you can put in an OBD1 B18B or B20. Some others like OBD2 B18B and B20, and D16Y7 and F series I suppose can go in without a VTEC ecu and wires run, but they must have conversion harnesses or mounts for the F. A D16Z6 can be dropped in by getting a P28, P30, or P08 ecu and running the 2 wires from the VTEC solenoid and other thing (? it has a black and yellow wire, that's all I know) to the ecu. B series is pretty much the same, just use the B mounts and run the wires. H series and F need mounts and the H22 needs a VTEC ECU. That covers a lot, but still you should search.

Basically my friend blew their motor, and I need to find one that is a direct drop-in.. If I'm correct either the D15B7 (OBD1) or an OBD1 D16 will both bolt in with no wiring or other changes.. Any confirmation is appreciated, thanks for the help.

Edit: My friend has a D15 out of a 92 Civic CX, which is just 8 valve instead of 16 correct? If I'm not mistaken it will bolt up?

If your friend gets another b7 engine it will just be a direct bolt in.

The d16z6 will bolt right in. You'd also have to get the p28 ECU and wire the vtec to it. Only the DX (92-95) came with the d15b7.

So did the LX. The CX had an 8-valve d15b8 I think. VX had a d15z1 with vtec-e.

You're right...so the 92-95 LX and DX came with the d15b7.

any SOHC from a 1992-1995 will bolt right in and run fine if you get the ecu with them and wire up the vtec if they have it. they will run off of the ecu in the car just not quite right (wrong fuel and ign maps, no vtec)

Why not just the the 16 valve d15b7 which you already have the ECU for? It has more power than the 8 valve.

But still, you already have the ECU for the D15B7. Don't you have any local import yards?
