CLUTCH ALIGNMENT BY HAND
Today i was installing the clutch in my car and needed to get a hold of a clutch alignment tool, well my neighbor is a mechanic and said he can do i t buy hand.SO he did his thing,i havent installed my tarnny yet cause i need to know if this even possible, what r your takes on this
You could "eyeball" it but you wont know if its on right until the trannys on. I know some mechanics that dont use the tool because they dont need to (but also they have been a mechanic for 20 some years).
If your really unsure about it just buy the tool.

Stick your finger in it, make sure everything is in the right spot. It is really just that easy.
Feel for "evenness" all the way around. Soon as the input shaft on the tranny is in there, it self centers.

two ways I have lined a clutch up by hand:
a) put my fingers inbetween the pressure plate and the flywheel and feel the difference on the clutch
You will line it up by feeling the edge of the pressure and the clutch
You will feel the distance of the clutch to the edge of the pressure plate and adjust it so you feel the same distance every ninety degrees
i have done this a lot and it always worked for me
b) if it is a used clutch (using the same flywheel that the clutch was used on)
put a shaft in the middle of the clutch and you can feel the grooves that the used clutch wore in to the pressure plate
