Engine turns off while driving
Hi all,
I am a new user here hoping to find some answers to a weird problem I have with my 97 accord (4cyl, no VTEC, 117k mls, auto transm.).
It happened now 3 times in 2 weeks that my engine turns off while driving. First time it happened on the freeway going 80 miles - engine stops without any unusual noise - just stops. I am rolling to the side, I try to start - engine starts and runs without any problems until a week later. I accelerate from a traffic light and again engine out. I restart - engine idles for 5 seconds and dies, i restart again - engine runs without any trouble.
Any ideas where to search for the problem (fuel?, main relay?)
thanks for help

Almost every honda from like 94-01 had the ignition switch recall on it. Have your local dealer run the VIN and see.

thank you very much for your suggestions - I will check the ignition switch on the weekend - I don't think the switch has ever been replaced but it actually feels solid and engine keeps running even if I push and pull on the key. I will also get a new main relay - just in case.....
'll see what happens....

I 2nd that.
I 2nd that.
When your car stalls, did all your dash instruments and lights turned off? If it is, I think its the ignition switch. You could buy it at autozone. A dremel to cut a groove in the head of the screw would be good and a screwdriver would help.
it's the ignition switch... that's what happen to me before while i was at cherry pickings... and it dies under the heat..then restart.. after a minute...die again... so we have AAA to take the car to honda dealer..the honda people check and they said it's fine! nothing's wrong! i was like...... so we drove it back... few days later... again! so we went to another honda dealer... finally they find out that it's the ignition switch problem..and we changed it for free since it's in the recall...
