Engine turned off while driving and cannot turn on until 10-15 minutes
Hello folks,
I have a Honda 2001 Accord V6 Sedan. It runs smoothly until recently I had the issue -- Its engine turned off while I was driving. This issue happened several times and one time it was dangerous just right after I merged onto a highway. After the engine off, I could not turn on the engine right away. I had to wait for 10-15 minutes.
Sometimes when I parked the car. After several minutes (not too long) I came back and could not start the engine. Still, I had to wait for around 10 minutes to be able to turn on the engine again.
I believe all these phenomena may be related to one defect. Need your professional advice on the root cause!
Thanks a lot!

I know with the 90-97 Accords & Civics there was a well known issue with the main relay acting like this when it got warm. Not sure about the 6th gens though. Might be worth a look/troubleshoot!

Is the problem consistently happening?
Could be the ignition switch is worn. This can happen from wear or excessive weight on the key chain(charms/excess keys).
Start at the basics; spark, air, fuel.
Have you checked for any stored codes?
When turning the key to II(ON) can you hear the main relay click on and fuel pump prime? If not, check the ignition switch before blaming the main relay.
If this only happens when the car is warm it is probably a thermal failure, you will want to check the cam and crank sensors when hot as they will most likely checkout fine when cold.

It may be low fuel pressure. Have the fuel pressure checked. See Scotty Kilmer's YouTube video "Fixing a car that shuts off randomly" for more details.

Thanks to all of you for your advices and suggestions. I will try all your suggestions one by one (from easy to hard) to see if any works.
I actually sent the car to the Honda Dealer for check but was told nothing is wrong.
One of my friends said it could be the coolant temp sensor. Maybe worth a try?
