Questions about ITR valves
Just some quick questions about the R valve train.
Size of the intake and exhaust valves?
What material are they?
Are they the same size as B16/GSR valves?
Is there a coating on them?
Thanks,
Jeff

I know that b16/itr exhaust valves are the same size. ITR intake valves ARE sligthly larger, but how much so...I couldnt tell you. I can get a vernier caliper to my spare ITR head and measure the valves if you want an exact diameter. As for material...i'm assuming stainless steel just because heat would not be friendly to aluminum. They dont appear to have any special coating on them from what I could see with the naked eye.
Quote from magazine article regarding the ITR:
"Extensive modifications of the cylinder head were undertaken improve performance. This also involves hand-polishing of the intake and exhaust ports near the valve seat area. In addition to hand polishing the ports to improve flow, special lightweight intake valves are also fitted. These valves feature a thinner shaft to reduce weight and increase flow. The head of the valve is also lightened to further reduce valvetrain weight. These modifications net a 12 percent weight reduction of the intake valves, allowing the engine to rev higher. These lighter intake valves help extend the rpm range of the Type R engine by an additional 200 rpm."

thanks guys, I was just curious because I was taking apart a R head and had a few questions. The Intake valves were not "magnetic" so, I was assuming they were stainless steel, and was unsure if they came with factory stainless steel valves.
Thanks alot,
Jeff
Thanks alot,

Ahhh, thanks.. for the info. Whats funny I would have probably checked the tip of the valve but it was broken off! Is this a common problem on R valves?
btw, who edited my post?

ITR intake valves? Hmm...maybe Acura would sell them, just a guess though.
Are they any good? Well they're larger and lighter than the rest of the B-series VTEC intake valves, so I suppose they are "better" than them, but there are better options for the price IMO...ferrea stainless swirl valves for example.

From what I've read they are only 1mm larger.
Makes sense also, because 1mm oversized valves for the ITR from ferrea is 35mm.
