Default distributor problems i think

ok heres the deal now when i am driving my car on the street it all of a sudden looses power and the tach starts to bounce around and and the car starts to spudder a little and some times dies and will not start for a minute. now my question is has any one else had a simular problem and what was there findings

and to i have a msd ignition too and i tested it and its working properly or could the msd coil be going bad is this a sign of a bad coil or just bad ignitor or just a fucked up dizzy period. and right now i am waiting on a friend to bring me a stock coil so i can test to see if it still or does not have the same problems with the ignition being turned all the way back too stock

most likely it is a failing igniter, replace it. check your spark plugs as well, i had some high RPM misfire when i installed my MSD cap, wires and coil, ended up being my spark plugs being burned by the increased voltage.

hey streetdreams02,
just wondering, how often does your car hunts when u drive and does your car idles really high at times?...
also..when your car hunts, what do u do to make it run properly again...
i'm having the same problem as well..car hunts and idling is really high at times...
and i'm still thinking if i should get a new iacv...
as they all say thats the problem...
checked all other possibilities and nothing was faulty...
thanks..joe

well..by hunting i mean the car loses power and the rpm will increase and drop rapidly while your legs on the accelerator...
but looks like we're on different problem...
good luck fixing your problem..

I would say it was your distributor... My friends car did the same thing and we changed the distributor and everything was good after that... Hope this helps...

bad ignitor in the distributor.
replace it, or you can get a whole new distributor from a h-t sponsor(dist. king) for the same price.

everysingle thing you said happen to me after like a month of driving with the msd w/coil , i just removed the msd and car is fine now.
oh btw the guy i sold the msd to started having the same problems after a week or so, i think the msd just puts too much stress on the stock ignitor.
