High Flow Cat is it worth it?
I just got thermal exhaust 2.25 piping and 4-2-1 apexi headers for my 95 4dr GSR, Now im wondering is it worth it to buy a high flow cat can you feel the difference or should i stick w/ the stock one. The other thing is my cat is kinda rusted so is there something i can apply to it so it wont keep rusting thanks.
header.
a nice "high flow" cat is probably better than the stock piece so Im gonna say yes its worth it. How much difference you see, well that depends on a bunch of things. Im not sure on the quality of that exhaust you are running, and since its only 2.25" I wouldnt expect to see a huge difference with a different cat.

A la my buddy Tuan;
"Cat Convertor flow rates
1) Catco (metal core) 2.25" 223.8 cfm
2) Catco (metal core) 2.5" 271.9 cfm
3) Catco (std. core) 2.25" 338.2 cfm
4) Catco (std. core) 2.5" 388.0 cfm
5) Random Tech 2.25" 297.1 cfm
6) Car Sound 2.25" 342.7 cfm
7) Test Pipe 2.25" 407.1 cfm
8) Stock NSX 242.1 cfm
9) Stock Type R 223.6 cfm
10) Stock Integra 218.3 cfm
The newer 2.5" Carsound's should flow over 400 cfm (talk to Dave at SMSP for actual figures).
A high-flow cat. is absolutely worth the expense. In fact, if given the choice between a new header paired with the stock cat. or a stock manifold paired with a 2.25" Carsound, I'd choose the Carsound. The stock cat. is really a severe bottleneck in the ITR (or any Integra) exhaust system. "
This is the Type-R forum btw.

I bought my Car Sound (after all this time, I've just learned that it's two words) from Dave around 3 years ago, and it's still working beautifully. I liked how he placed additional welds on the heat shield to prevent rattles, and his work on the flanges was excellent. I'd suggest giving him a call or sending him an email.

Dave's website isn't up yet, but here is SMSP's information:
