i think well worth the 100$ -- w/o it you still have a semi bottleneck effect

Because it evens out the exhaust flow. The stock cat converter is two inches I think or something like that, which causes a bottle neck. The aftermarket diameter is larger.

your gains will also depend on how many other mods you have, and what types of mods you have. With a "near stock" setup, I doubt you will see any gains whatsoever, in fact I've heard you may even see a loss in power!

good "hi flow" cats also use more precious metals as catalyst which more efficiently create reactions thus allowing the exhaust gas to flow through w/ less restriction due to less material blocking flow while still removing greenhouse gases to legal levels. As mentioned before, some are also available in the same diameter of your 2.5", 3" or whatever size system. On a side note, never gut a stock cat. If you don't know what I'm talking about then no worries.

just get a straight pipe .. and keep your old cat ... incase you dont like the sound or ..emissions .. ect...

as the other guy said ... you wont hardly notice anything .. unless you have your ride mod'ed pretty nice .. or atleast plan on it modding it in the future ...

a stock motor is gonna rely on the backpressure a little more .. than a beefed one ... sooo the guys are right ... youll notice probably loss of low end power

It's $30, but imagine getting a ticket, then paying $2000. On top of that it makes your car sound like a bee, and it doesn't flow any better than a cat converter.

Depends how much you want to spend. Both are very similiar as far as gains are concerned. I went with the $30 test pipe since out in AZ you don't have to pass smog. You would never catch me spending the money for a hi flow cat out here, but in smog checked areas the hi flow cat might be better rather than saving some money now and paying more once you get caught.

I'd probably go ahead and just get it. I'm sure you'll be doing more mods in the future. Soundwise, it made my nice quiet Greddy throatier, and much louder and droning especially at highway speeds

Er, not really. Its the same idea as getting a catback exhaust. With a completely stock car, a catback is going to give you what, 1-2hp?

When properly matted with H/C its going to provide much more gains.
Like everyone said, with out it you have a bottleneck in your exhaust system. Your exhaust works as one peice, not three seperate peices (H/C/E), when there is a bottle neck in one area it effects the performance of the whole system.

please dont get a test pipe, you have only 1% better gains

you can get a custom high flow cat from smsp on the board here for around 100

i would recomend getting a high flow cat for gains too over what you have.

Unless I'm mistaken, SMSP doesn't make their own cats, but they weld on flanges and O2 bungs onto Carsound cats, which are the best you can buy. This is the route I'm going in a month or so. With flanges and everything, ready to bolt on, it's about $160 or so from SMSP and well worth it in my opinion. Don't **** up the environment just because you want 1hp more and some bucks less than with a high-flow cat.

i say you get a test pipe...a lot cheaper, and perform better! My car is more responsive, a lil bit better on gas mileage, and my greddy cat back has a nicer tone to it!

That is correct. $165 I think is the exact price but everything is negotiable . . .

Tell SMS or IPS what car you have and $165 includes sizing. no extra charges.
