Mobil 1 Synthetic
This is my first oil change since i had the car. The car was already Honda certified, i wanted to know what kinda oil you guys are using. I hear Mobil 1 synthetic is good, but what weight? I dont have a owners manual, and looked through search and didnt find much.

I run Mobil 1 synthetic and will always use Mobil 1 synthetic. I decided to swap it out ever 3,750 miles although I can probably go longer, but whatever.
Use the Honda recommended weight of 10w-30. And most likely a whole bunch of people are going to chime in with different brands, but to me, it's all splitting hairs because no one has solid scientific proof that X brand is better than Y brand.
People even have a difficult time justifying $ynthetic for regular dino!

Ya, I did synth in my s2k, but not in my civic. Synth seems to stay a little cleaner I think, but it doesn't really matter. People have said use 20w50 in the summer here in dallas, and 5w30 in the winter. I always just used 10w30. But whatever, I don't think cars even need oil! Probably just the oil companies getting us to buy their crap! (sorry, 30 minutes till I'm off work on a thursday, I'm losing my mind)

just curious, but how did you go about determing that the Honda oil "holds up really well under hard driving conditions"? i'm interested to see if it "holds up" any better than say another cheap oil like castrol-gtx.

welll usually you can see when oil starts to breakdown it seems to thin out and just not hold its properly well and hard driving conditions would be waht i do everyday traffic hitting vtec non stop =P etc.

Well, a personal observation of how "thin" the oil feel/looks is somewhat misleading. If you really wanna know how the oil fares, send a sample in for testing..

I wish I could see when oil starts to breakdown (at the molecular level) and sense the viscosity.
