Default Power inverter come on I know u got em

I just got my inverter hooked up. For use with my XBOX. I asked for it to be hooked to the battery. Because I read that was better. But the guys at the stereo shop tapped into some wire or wired it to the fusebox somehow is that ok? I have a 400 watt inverter I bought from Home Depot. They said they didnt run it off my screen wires. I spoke with the shop today that hooked the inverter up. Cause they didnt hook it to the battery like I requested. They said they tapped into a 4 gauge wire at the fuse box. Which is basically the same thing they said. But I still insisted that they hook it to the battery. They said they will make a dedicated 4 gauge wire going to the battery and they said I can bring it back tomorrow. What would be the big difference? My overhead light isnt working anymore like it blew a fuse or a bulb. But right now its working fine should I drive one hour to take it back to the shop? To have it hooked up to the battery. Cause now they have it on the wire at the fuse box. Like I said I heard its better to have it wired to the battery. I dont know jack about this stuff truthfully. If someone could please explain it. That would be fine or just tell me what to do. Should I go back and get it wired to the battery. Or just leave it like it is at the fuse box. Will it cause harm or what may happen if I leave it like it is. But I dont want to damage all this equipment that is my only concern. Or any wiring to the car for that matter. Also the inverter makes a beep that only sounds when Im starting the car thats it. Im sorry I hope this makes more sense. I just want it wired properly.

someone told me to

Keep it the way it is. They ran it through the fuse box for a reason, so any type of overload wont make your inverter melt or fry everything plugged into it and itself. Why do you think good stereo systems have a fuse block in the middle of the 4 guage power wire. You will still get the same consistant power from the battery just with a little added safeguard now.

do u agree?

There are no factory 4 ga battery lines in the fusebox, they probably just tapped into one of the ignition wires, more likely 8ga max. If they run a seperate 4ga line it will be fine, whatever they run I'm sure they will put the right fuse in there to stop it ruining everything

they did i took it to them today. They said that everything will be fine. Thats the way they always hook it up. Unless they install like a 1000 Watt inverter then they stick to the battery. But then they said I would have to turn the inverter on and off. They said they didnt run it with the fuse box. They tapped into a blade wire and that it wont mess anything up.

Thanks though man

Sounds to me like the installers you took the unit to are a bunch of "cowboys".
I mean, you wouldn't hook a 400W amp up to the main fuse box in the car would you??
NO you wouldn't, so why hook a 400W inverter up to it??

Usually inverters have a power switch on them, so how hard would it be for them to pull the switch out and put a relay in its place, and then control the relay off the 12V accessory system?? Not very. :!:

Personally I would have run an 8 OR 4 ga cable from the battery terminal through a fuse, and then onto the inverter. And then done the auto off relay trick that I mentioned earlier.

do you guys have problems with the inverters? i just have it stuck to my cigarette lighter right now powering a dvd player, and when my car is at idle for a while, my battery starts to go out. im thinking these inverters are sucking out a lot of power. but i also have a 1600+watt system, aem pulleys, lights, etc. but it only starts to die w/ the inverter.

Well too much yes, but that doesnt mean that your inverter is constantly using the 300 watts. It has the ability to supply 300 watts continuously but will only use of your battery what is being asked of it by its components.
