Manual Transmission Disassembly
Hey Guys,
First off my car's a 91 Civic Si HB 5spd. D16A6 engine.
The transmission in my car is making a lot of noise from what I believe is the input shaft bearing (Showing typical symptoms: Whirring noise especially noticeable in 1st-3rd, can hear it while car is in neutral with the clutch engaged. With the pedal pressed in (clutch disengaged) the noise immediately goes away.) So I know it's definitely not the throw bearing.
Now, I have a spare transmission (Also for a D16A6) in my garage which also has an input shaft issue. However, I've never had it in my car before so I'm not sure whether it has the same symptoms, but I wouldn't mind cracking it open and finding out for myself and perhaps even attempting to replace the bearing myself.
With that said, yesterday I tried to crack it open (without a manual.. ) and I got it split open about an inch, but cannot get it disassembled beyond that. Is there something I'm completely overlooking that needs to be unbolted to allow me to completely open it up?
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks!
Matt
