Default Help. Whining sound whenever I put the car in gear.

Drove the car a little hard yesterday, and when I got home, I noticed that it was a little hard to put the car in gear. Then this morning, I put the car in reverse to back out, and there was this whining sound (almost like a blender with nothing in it) coming from the engine bay. I couldn't locate exactly where it was coming from. I put it in all of the gears (1-5) and the same thing happened. Anyone know what this could be? Thanks in advance.

First thing to do is check your fluid levels.

check for leaks where you park the car.

Try having a friend listen under the hood whilst you rev the engine to help isolate the sound.

how did the car drive? It could be any number of things....axle/cv joints, the transmission itself, or even just the clutch. Does it make this noise if you roll/coast in neutral? That would rule out the axles.

My last GSR tranny was doing the same thing.. It was doing it in neutral too when the clutch was not pressed.. I believe it was the main bearing or something like that.. I just got a new tranny since the casing was cracked but it could have been rebuilt..

That may or may not be the case.. Try changing your tranny fluid.. Im not an expert but im just letting you know what happend to me.. Maybe someone else can clear it up better..

There are no leaks that I can see. We've got a pretty clean garage floor, so I'd definately be able to tell. Also, when I leave the car in neutral, there is no sound. Then as soon as I put it in gear, the sound starts up again. I'll try to pinpoint where the sound is coming from.

Tried a search and seems like they're about $40. Is it pretty difficult to install or should I have a shop do it?
