Civic T-belt noise-tech tip
Hey all! I was thuming through the latest issue of Underhood Service and came accross an article about noisy Civic t-belts. The article focused on th '96 civic with a whine or chirp coming from the timing belt/water pump area. Basically it says to run the engine 'till the cooling fan goes on and off twice. Then let the engine temp drop to about 135 degrees (cool down takes about an hour at 75 degrees ambient temp). After the engine is allowed to cool, set the engine at #1 or #4 TDC (top dead center). Remove the plug covering the adjuster bolt. Loosen the adjuster 1/2 turn, then torque the bolt back to 33 ft. lbs. If anyone here runs across this, let me know if this works or if you have anything to add to this post.
