For some reason whenever i shut off my car (with stock EG CX motor) a rapid tapping sound comes from the motor. Punching the motor causes it to stop/slow but it quickly resumes, this goes on for about 30 seconds or so after shutoff. It doesnt seem electrical.

 

It has something to do with the heated metal of the engine/exhaust cooling down. It is nothing to worry about.

 

yeah i think it probably is the heat shield or something making the noise, cooling down etc

 

i was always lead to believe that it was the oil dripping back in the oilpan. either way, its normal and nothing to be concerned about.

I was told that once before too, but think about it. When you drip water in to a bucket filled already with water does it make a tapping noise? Nope. PLUNK PLUNK
