Default Civic Overheating Problem???

Hi guys, I tried to search on this topic before I post, but couldn't find an answer. I have a 93 Honda Civic Hatch. The Problem I'm having with it is that it is overheating. I just replaced the thermostat and the radiator and changed all the coolant. The car is still overheating... When I first start to drive for about 2 hours, its seems to be just fine. But after the 2 hours when I'm stopped at idle the Temp starts to risel. I had the Radiator Pressure checked and everything by the Mechanic he ccouldn't give me a definite answer. Anyone ever run into a problem like this???

Thanks in Advance Guys,

Saki

Does your fan work? I had a Mazda 626 that would overheat at idle after driving for a while. It was because the fan didn't work.

you got air in the coolant system. try to bleed the coolant system.

You sound pretty positive. He said he already took it to a mechanic. When it was pressure tested don't you think air would have been noticed?

Hi guys. Yes the fans do work just fine. The mechanic did bleed the cooliing system and replaced the coolant. I don't think this is the problem, but could the water pump be going???

I had a similar problem to my 2000 Civic Si. I did all the same check ups you did and finally the problem was that my radiator fan switch was not working anymore. The fan worked, just not the fan switch itself. Try that.

You do realize how many idiotic mechanics there are in this world right?

You wouldn't notice air with a pressure test anyway.

Fan switch can be tested by bending a paper clip and touching both ends to the contacts. If the fan kicks on then the switch is fine.

This doesnt work make sure that your fan is blowing air the right way. I have known many people when replacing the radiator to not notice something as little as being sure the fan was blowing the right way.

Also it could be the water pump and may also be head gasket.

that sounds like your water pump, do you have collant leaking from that spot too? Take it to the mechanic and have him double check it, but I'm almost 100% that's what it is. You will need to get your timing belt taken off while doing that so it's a good idea to replace that too.

I took the car to the mechanic, I found out what it was. The distrubutor went bad, and was making that grinding noise. I replaced it... Only Problem I still have is the car is still overheating. I did check to see if it was the Fan Switch, but the Fan switch works good. I noticed when the fan comes one when I'm idling it blows cold air. But when I tap the gas then its starts to kick out hot air, and my temp gauge starts to go back down... Anyone think of anything...
