Default adjusting timing after cam gear fiddling?

just went to the dyno today, baselined at 155 ( stock 2000 year jdm b18c-r, jdm 4-1 header, mugen catback twin loop, j's intake) , ended up at 168 after the session. my tuner adjusted my SAFC and cam gears, but didn't adjust the distributor timing. he said it wasn't necessary, is he right? also i noticed that my water temp went up by 5 degrees ( from 90 to 95 celsius ) on my way home from the dyno session. any comments on the increase in temps?
