One says B18C1 on it and the other says B18C5
Too much to list, here's some:
Higher Compression
Lighter valvetrain
Different Intake Manifold
Limited Slip Differential
Shorter gear ratios

b16 head w/ porting, shorter single butterfly intake manifold, higher compression pistons, stronger clutch, bigger throttle body, lsd..

Default Let's see...

What make a Type R engine different than a GSR engine??
A measly 25 more horsepower in stock configuration. Plus some fancy components to get that horsepower. That's about it.

Default so if i get these for a GSR would it be stronger..

GSR Motor w/:
new camshafts (maybe TODA)
cam gears (maybe TODA)
new valvetrain (maybe Skunk2's or portflow or ITR??)
LSD
Skunk 2 intake manifold w/some kind of bigger TB
port and polish
lighten flywheel
better clutch

OR
Type R motor w/:
new valvetrain. i duno if i should keep the b18c1 valvetrain or get aftermarket ones
new camshafts. i dunno bout these too. to keep it stock or get aftermarket ones.

i dunt really know if i should get Type R motor or GSR.

$2000 price difference...i'd go with the geeser. i was in the same dilemma 6 months ago. i got the GSR motor and put in about $1000 worth of parts(hook up prices) and i walk lightly modded R's in the 1/4mile in my sedan!. the R would eventually catch up on the freeway tho.

good luck

I had a GSR (98) and let me say the difference IS NOT MEASLY.

The car is so much more SOLID, faster, agile, the list goes on.

A modded GSR is still not gonna be an R. I tried to get My GSR up to R performance...not even close.

Default Chris

Remember though, we are talking about engines, not how solid or agile the the car is. To bring a GSR engine to Type R horsepower is pretty easy to do.

They are plenty of of equipped GSRs that will tear on Type Rs, but not from the factory. But Ive heard that by putting an ITR or B16 tranny on a gsr, Quarter mile times are about .10-.15 behind and Type r

Doesn't sound right to me. You'd think that the extra 25 horses and the extra rpm would count for something too...

My friends 95 GSR 4 door weighed 2657 at the track in street trim. How does that compare to the weight of a Type R? How much lighter are they?
