Default Battery: Dry Cell

The battery my '00 Honda Civic LX came with is pure CRAP! I just got done installing a small system,

(1) 12" Solobaric (800Watt/MAX - 400W RMS)
(1) 800 Watt Pioneer Amp (420W RMS)
(1) 0.5 Farad / Rockford Fosgate Cap.

No system on, everything seems fine. System is on for more than 5 minutes, i get crappy Idol, **** poor performance (with VERY lil dimming). This battery just doesnt seem to be able to handle anything. Its a cheap Kirkland brand battery mind you. =[~ However it does have decent cranking amps, and above what honda's specs are.

Anyway, any ideas? I hate to drop a but load of cash on a Optimum Dry Cell concidering its 100 bucks for a lawn mower size battery!

Yea very true. Let me rephrase:

"If I will get about the same performance feel from a different battery that wont run me as much..."

I'm not running anything crazy, and plan to upgrade to a Acura by the end of next year. So want to just do what I gotta to get the most of this for now.

isn't the battery used when the engine is on and the alternator isn't putting out enough to power what you want?

well, the alternator is just to replenish the battery .... or "recycle" energy.

Anyway, can anyone recommend an inexpensive sight for an optima battery?

Or have a decent car system and have recommendations?

All insight is welcome, thank you in advance.

Sounds more like your alternator can't handle it to me, not your battery.

I used an alternator tester, returned it OK; and I put a multi-meter to the battery.

Idle (w/o audio/BASS) = 14.1V Stable
Idle (w/ BASS @ FULL) = 13.6 - 14V (Variable)

Car off, the battery then reads 12.6 - 13 V

Hmm, any sure fire way off dealing with this to see if I have a weak alternator?

Maybe I should just opt for the optima battery and say f@ck it!
I think honda alternators suck anyway from past stories I've heard.

could be your cap. i believe 1/2 farad cap is good for 500W. your amp is 800W. so id step up to a 1 farad cap. did you properly charge your cap when you got it. im not into audio but this is my guess. if this doesnt sound right y dont you hop on over to the audio forum and they should be able to tell you a little bit more about this

Hmmm, tru. I will definatley shoot over thre now and leave a post.

Thanks. Yes, the cap was charge properly. Technically, its .1 Farad per 100W RMS. If you wanna spend the money then you do the opposite. .1Farad per Total 100W output.

Either way, thanks.
