Default Gains with 112 octane?

Now I know that running straight 112 octane with no changes to the engine will not do anything...but what about advanced timing?

How much can the timing be advanced? 10 degrees? Will there be any gains?
Im thinking about trying it out on the dyno and see what happens.

Also...should it be mixed or can straight 112 octane be used?

It depends on your compresson ratio. With stock ITR motor probably no/mim gain. With 14 -1 compression that has been detuned for the street to run on pump gas so it doesnt ping. You would see some nice gains switching to race gas, if it was needed and allowing the timing to be set were it should be.

Well my compression in 9.6:1 ...

What Im wondering is about the ignition timing really...is there gains if the timing is advanced drastically?

Leaded on unleaded?

Save your money.
Won't help that much anyway... 1-2 hp maybe.

If you have 13-14:1 C.R. or F.I. then try it.

Holy sheeeettt... 112 OCTANE?? lol!!!

Man, we're lucky to find a petrol station here that offers RON 98 OCTANE. Which is equivalent to the American 91 OCTANE i think (or maybe it's 93 for you guys).

Anyway, RON 98 OCTANE is paradise for us. Our standard Premium Fuel level is 95. Which must be below 90's for you guys.

Our fuels suck,
our roads suck,
our politicians suck,
our detuned jap car imports suck,

But hey, our beer rocks and thats all that matters

Cheers folks,

be VERY VERY Careful!

If its leaded and clogs your cat you will be hurting. We have an ITR here in socal that used some fuel additive and it clogged the cat he now dyno's numbers which are less than a gsr.... I usually use 100 octance unleaded. on a mostly stock internal you wont notice a difference.

Lead = bad for CAT and bad for valve seats...

Even if you dont use a cat, leaded fuel will quickly foul your oxygen sensor. So, be prepared to replace it/clean it often (with a torch) if you go with leaded versus unleaded.

Yea I only use 87 octane
Thats all a CRV requires...so why use anything higher

Also..if you arent running advanced timing or high compression...Ive been told that higher octae can actually lose power since it burns slower.

If your engine runs fine w/ 87 octane at 16 degrees BTDC of timing, just bump the timing to 18-19 degrees and run 89 octane.

Although you'll have to decide if it is worth it, as you'll only gain 1-2 hp peak at most. Although my B18B1 engine seems to really like 18 degrees BTDC(on 87 octane too, 9.2:1 CR). Really helps with power below 4k, as well as making the transient response of the engine faster.

Hmm...good info. Ill definately have to play with the timing on the dyno...Ive never messed around with it.
