NEED ppl with exp... no start condition after rebuild
oK Im gonna boil this down to the straight facts...
Rebuilt motor, installed motor, did all the fancy fixins, cranked it w/o plugs to prime oil, got ready for inital fire up and nothin.. just cranked... well some how the ignitor in the dist went bad so i picked up a junk yard dizzy yesterday and brought it home... spark galore... went to fire up motor and it backfired (scared the hell out of me) so i pulled the valve cover and the plugs re checked timing and everything to be sure it was all still correct. motor still turns over effortlessly and smoothly... Now heres the kicker...
Spark at all 4 plugs (i checked)
Fuel IS going in the cyl's (i checked)
Timing marks are all where they need to be EXCEPT the dist... so...
I had my father cranking the motor while i was clocking the dist to try to get it to start so i could time it in... STILL wont start... CYL #1 will fire here and there when I get to the happy timing spot on the dist.. and thats it, I know because the plug was a bit black and the exhaust mani runner for cyl 1 was somewhat warm....
Pulled all the plugs back out and checked em, tried AGAIN... same thing...
The 3/4 of a tank of gas thats in it has been in there since OCT bad gas maybe??
FUEL+SPARK+TIMING=RUN what the hell is going on with this... anyone in the north pittsburgh PA area that would like to check it out give me a call PM me whatever, iv'e been playing with this too long and its starting to frustrate me...

Sounds like an ignition timing issue. Make sure you didn't put the new distributor on 180 degrees backwards. Put the engine to tdc where it should be firing on a certain cylinder, and make sure the rotor is over that certain plug wire.
damn, sounds like the same situation I'm going through. bump for you bro.

Make sure your firing order is correct. Maybe spray some ether down in there and see if you can make it run. Try to get that old gas out of there as soon as you can. Should still run though. I'd also run some fuel system cleaner and all that hooplah when you get it running. After you empty that tank of old gas of course. Good luck.
check the firing order again. triple check crank timing on the cover. I went through the same thing on my friend's 94 LS. pull the plugs on the injectors and see if it will start. ours would fire for a second, then plug the injectors back in and it would semi run. it turned out to be off one tooth on the crank, and the casing on the wiring in the dizzy was falling off and created a weak spark situation.
Good Luck

i would first compression test the motor to make sure theres compression, because if FUEL + SPARK + TIMING but no COMPRESSION then = NOT RUN

i would do the same, compression test then check timing both of them, and check firing order. i think its 1342
