Default custom short shifter

So, I pulled my motor today and thought I might as well start on my shifter. Now, I've been told that if you want to shorten your shift, you need to lengthen the metal between the bearing and the ball. But, I've also been told that you just cut and weld the ball to the bearing. Which is true? And also, is there a possiblility that i cut/lengthen too much?

Default Re: custom short shifter (H22 VTEC)

Why try to re-invent the wheel. There are tons of manufacturers that make short shifters and they a cheap too. All the time and effort it takes to build your own you could go to the local shop and buy one cheaper!!!
