Dropped into 2nd instead of 4th at full throttle....idle and tranny issue
First, my Civic: B16 swapped 97 EX.
I was at full throttle going from 3rd to 4th and dropped it into 2nd instead of 4th on accident. The car didn't act up rght away from what I could tell. The next morning I started it and it hesitated it and seems to sputter a bit every second or so. For this problem I am thinking it is a bent valve or something along those lines.
Second, the tranny seems to have a bit of chatter. It also hums a bit more when the car is moving and the internals of the tranny are moving. Is it possible to snap off the little beads off of the pressure plate? Trying to pinpoint the issue and order parts before I drop the tranny. Anyone have any ideas? Posted on ClubSi and thought I would post here also just in case anyone had thoughts. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sounds to me that you definetely bent a valve. As for the transmission issue it could be a couple different things, sounds like you might have messed up the synchros on top of doing some other things, kinda hard to diagnose though until you drop it.

yeah you probably bent a valve. i did the same thing at 92mph. bent all my exhaust valves and 5 of my intake valves. as far as the tranny thing i don't know, nothing went wrong with mine from that.
I have had a few guys do that. the trany hum is the bearings on the main shaft and I bet your miss is in the distributor. You may have bent valves, just run a quick compression test, but the two cars that did that hear didnt.

Do you think I can replace just the cap in the distributor or do I have to do the cap and rotor? I am also going to change plugs and wires at the same time (about time anyhow).
As far as the tranny, the bearing don't sound too bad, but I don't have too much experience with tranny work. I have dropped them and taken them apart, but didn't put them back together (either blown auto tranny or manual that we used for parts). Is that something I can tackle myself or should I ahve a shop do it?
Thanks for all of the help guys!
