Default CRX: Hood doesn't pop smoothly

I have to pull the latch all the way to the top till the hood pops. Sometimes it doesn't even have to pop and I have to play with the wire.

Does this mean the cable is stretched and I have to get a new one or is there something with the latch itself?

Right now when I pull on it, it makes a quick short click sound but the hood doesn't pop or budge.

my latest technique has been pull very hard on the trunk latch and punch the hood, usually works

I just tighted up the cable near the front of the latch by the hood so that it has less slack. Pops a lot better now.

How can one tell if the problem is with the cable or the latch?

mine too, sometimes she pops, sometimes I get nothing. The cable is really frayed and probably needs to be replaced. But... I just pull like Im gonna open it once, then bang on the hood right above my "H" and then try and open it again and she pops right open, Everytime

its not necessarily the cable. you can try lubricating the latch, as well as adjusting the height of the spring on the hood to play with the action of the latch. it usually fixes the problem.

usually is the cable. you can adjust the hood latch a certain amount but after like what 15 years that cable is bound to stretch

I'll pick up a new cable tommorow probably. I like having the hood pop on command. Just one of those things that bugs.

it does help that your hood opens when you want to, like maybe in case of an engine fire? LOL

the best technique right here ill let you guys in on it

with your door all the way open and your body standing were the door and body meet, reach down with your right hand and pull the latch while doing this reach over with your left hand, open you hand to a flat palm style and gentley or with moderate force tap the corner of the hood, then VOILA! opened hood

I just consider it an extra anti-theft device...hood doesn't open.
